Oh, also, another reminder...

Since Alan has that stent history: People trying to increase Vit D levels, should not take high dose calicum supplements. One cardiologist has posted his recommendations on the net already, and I put it on that Vit D thread. He does not recommend more than 600mg a day of calcium in supplement form, when doing Vit D supplements.

Alan should also have calcium blood work, next time he gets the Vit D level checked, to make sure he does not have hypercalcemia. (this is not common, but important for those with cardiac issues).

Mrs. D.

I just looked at the blood work he brought home on Thursday. His Calcium level is 9.6. I then looked at the bottle of ABC Plus Senior multivitamin that he gets from Puritans Pride. The calcium that is given in that pill is 200 mg as Calcium carbonate and Dicalcium Phosphate.

I also looked up Hypercalcemia and the symptoms and levels. I think Alan is Okay in that regard. Alan does not (to my knowledge) take any other calcium supplements. But I will quiz him when he gets up.

We discussed his sleeping all night and not getting any sunshine. We know many others (from the meeting) who also sleep during the day.

So we are doing this step by step. He went to bed earlier than his normal 8 a.m. this morning. I call it titrating down from sleeping all day.

Little by little we'll get him to eventually do a maybe 12 to 7:30 a.m. sleep time.

That's approximately what I do and I have no problem. The reason he started either sleeping on the couch and later on going to bed in the morning, was that every time he came to bed he would kick his feet (think of restless leg syndrome but in his feet). After a while the pins and needles would stop but by then I would be up and could not go back to sleep. I never got any sleep that way. So he started to sleep on the couch, but he missed the Temper Pedic mattress toppers so eventually he got his rhythm changed and he found that being up all night and going to bed at 8 to 8:30 am. and sleeping till 5 p.m. , well it worked.

So I got the bed at night, and he got the bed during the day. It worked for us but obviously the sun could not shine it's light on him and so the result is low Vitamin D levels.

So we are working on that.

Oh, what do you think of his Vitamin B 12 level of 3257.

I told him "now that you are storing it well, you don't need to take 5000 every day. (It did nothing for his neuropathy by the way). I told him he could take it maybe 3 times a week. Was I correct in this info?

Thanks much

Melody

Yes, 3 times a week is fine for the B12.

The hypercalcemia is not that common. But since Alan already had an artery blockage, his calcium metabolism might be different than other peoples'. The amount in a multivitamin is not really significant.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a calcium metabolism.

My goodness, the info I learn from you. Mind Boggling.

I do so appreciate it. And believe me, I pass it forward.

thanks much
