Default GABA & R-Lipoic acid

Hi,

I was reading a blog last night where a lady with severe body wide PN was given GABA for her condition as a natural alternative to Lyrica by her doctor. She stated that it worked wonders after 30 days. She did not say what dose though. I was wondering how safe it was as it's a neurotransmitter.

Also I read through old threads on R-Lipoic acid. I bought 100mg from iherb. I could not find 50 mg without sorbitol.
Some people have written than 100mg makes them jittery. I was wondering if one can cut a gel cap? Or is taking them every 2nd day more advisable.

Thank you,
Aussie

Try and see if you get the jitters. Some people don't.

I use PharmaGaba. I used it for over a month. Didn't notice
Much change in PN pain. It helped with grief and anxiety
Though-- a family emergency. Sometime I take it at night
If I have a problem getting to sleep.

Hi Mrs. D,

I used it for 3 days in the morning no problem. But then I read through a few threads where it gave people jitters and I started to get worried since I already do have anxiety. I use to take 50mg a day and never had any noticeable improvement but my tablets had sorbitol. So I tried to find 50 mg again without sorbitol and I couldn't. That's how I ended up with the 100mg veggie caps. I read that it has so many health benefits that are just incredible.

Be aware that the type of ALA you get is very important. The typical ALA supplements are racemic mixtures which have both enantiomers the Left and the Right. Having the L in there not only blocks the receptor site (if I recall correctly) but also changes the behavior of the R. It is also found that the Na (sodium) bound ALA gives the best response.

So basically what you're really looking for is Na-R-ALA. This will give the the true response of ALA if it is what can help you. Other brands have the potential of giving a false negative/null response.

I'd suggest looking at "Doctor's Best Na-R-ALA"
