I developed a stomach neuropathy after an undiagnosed B deficiency. Has this happened to anyone else? I was wondering if it eventually went away. The pain is bad and it burns if I eat the wrong thing.

sorry to hear you are suffering this stomach pain you say this is an "undiagnosed B deficiency" Do you just suspect you are deficient in B or have you had tests done that show this? hope you find answers and relief

So many differences in individuals. I didn't have any kind of digestive symptom until very late in my deficiency state, and the I developed constant more-or-less neausea. I was dying of untreated B12 malabsorption and had none of the "classic" digestive symptoms.
Some with digestive symptoms have symptoms and some do not. And to make it even more confusing, B12 deficiency can cause digestive problems or result from them, or both. rose

And I really think the fish oil had a lot to do with healing up my gut symptoms, although I guess B12 deficiency does cause GI symptoms, too. It is hard to know what helped me most...because I was doing several things at once.
Gastrointestinal symptoms include heartburn, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, sore tongue, and early satiety. http://www.emedicine.com/neuro/topic439.htm

I developed a stomach ulcer because of my nutritional dependencies. Are you sure it is not an ulcer. A stomach ulcer will sometimes feel better from eating and sometimes not. It can depend on what you eat and how much acid it may cause your stomach to produce.
I like to use glutamine powder mixed in water for any GI issues like this. Mix the glut in water so that it looks like skim milk. When you drink this down on an empty stomach you can feel how it soothes your GI tract. Drink this stuff down several times a day. You may want to avoid taking more than maybe 4 doses per day because too much glutamine may interfere with sleep and may cause a little bit of diarrhea or dry mouth. Glutamine is the best thing for healing any part of your GI tract. Another thing that might help is to use DLG chews. This is licorice without the active ingredient which helps to produce mucuos in your GI tract. This you use about a half hour before meals and you chew these to stimulate the mucuous production. This might help too but the glutamine is something you should definitely use. If you have any problem with high blood pressure these DLG chews may be a problem. The active ingredient in licorice may cause hypertension and sometimes there may be a little bit of this stuff left (even though it is removed) that may cause some high blood pressure problems. So be careful with DLG if you have high bp issues. |

Another cause of B12 deficiency is overgrowth of H-pylori. That also causes ulcers.
And too little stomach acid can make overgrowth of bacteria more likely. rose

Stomach problems were my first symptom of B12 deficiency. It started with bloating with evening meal. It progressed to everymeal. I eventually ended up with a severe problem with gastritis with everything I ate. Lasted a couple of years. Lost much weight. I had chest pain too. In the beginning, I couldnt tell if stomach was making chest hurt or vise versa. I did get better with both. Stomach only acts up once in a while. It is pretty much ruined as far as what I used to be able to eat. Like, raw onions. No way now. I just have to be careful. You have to add things back slowly. I sure missed my nightly vanilla breyers with peach schnapps drizzled on top. Im back to it now. So will you. Keep your chin up and take your MethylB12

Symptoms of Vitamin B12 Deficiency
A deficiency of vitamin B12 can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency anemia. A mild deficiency may cause only mild, if any, symptoms. But as the anemia worsens it may causes symptoms such as: weakness, tiredness or light-headedness rapid heartbeat and breathing pale skin sore tongue easy bruising or bleeding, including bleeding gums stomach upset and weight loss diarrhea or constipation If the deficiency is not corrected, it can damage the nerve cells. If this happens, vitamin B12 deficiency effects may include: tingling or numbness in fingers and toes difficulty walking mood changes or depression memory loss, disorientation, and dementia B12 deficiency in infants, if not detected and treated, can lead to severe and permanent damage to the nervous system. New mothers who follow a vegetarian diet should have their babies' B12 levels checked by a doctor
