Notice the dichotomy of having increased serum creatinine on Lisinopril...? I think that these actions are not well understood and remain confusing.

What lisinopril DOES do is enter the brain easily via the blood brain barrier, and it is thought it protects against inflammation that increases risk of Alzheimer's. This too, is only a theory... but has been published. You can find it on the net.

Ah, so I can sprout till my hearts content, vitamix till my heart's content but I'll take lisinopril so I don't wind up a doddering old fool??

Oh My.

What will I do??

I'll talk to my Dr. Fred.

And I'm going on the internet and look up Lisinopril and dementia.

Now if only they would invent a pill that will make me look 30 years old again.

I'd take that in heartbeat.

lol

Thanks much

Most doctors do NOT know lisinopril is cleared unmetabolized.

Most doctors have no clue about blood brain barrier crossing.
(only the most lipophilic (fat soluble) ACE inhibitors cross into the brain...this is new research. Vasotec does not, but lisinopril does) The lipophilic nature of lisinopril is what causes dizziness as a side effect, BTW.

Don't expect your doctor to know these things. No drug rep has visited them for many many years...and so doctors for the most part remain clueless.

What you can do is ask the right questions... don't tip your doctor off to the answers...but ask open questions.

1) is lisinopril metabolized like other drugs?
2) Is lisinopril lipophilic?

See what you get back as answers.
