Hi, everybody:
I have thyroiditis (also called, in some web sites, Hashimoto's hypothyroidism). I would like to know which vitamins and minerals to take (dosage per tablet and number of tablets to take). What kinds of herbs in tablet form can I take (dosage per tablet and number of tablets to take)? In the little island on which I live, I only have access to herbs in tablet form. If you know of natural treatments for the auto-immune disease I have, please let me know (brand name, dosage per tablet and number of tablets to take). Thanks for your information. |

I think the first thing you should try is going gluten free.
This has to be done completely with no cheating. Autoimmune issues including the thyroid can occur with gluten intolerance. This would be better than any supplement, or herb IMO. http://sites.google.com/site/jccglutenfree/ Do this for at least 6 months so the gluten can leave your system and gives time for the antibodies to reduce.

I will try a gluten free diet. Like you said, it might very well help me. Quote: "This has to be done completely with no cheating." When I buy food at any supermarket in French Polynesia, I am not sure if the food labels say whether this or that food contains gluten ot not. Maybe if I try contacting some food manufacturers to explain to them my situation, they can tell me if the specific foods they make contain gluten. In the U.S., people are more lucky, because the food labels on most foods they buy mention if there is gluten in this or that food. Thanks for your information and link. |

The best way to start is to use only fresh whole foods.
Processed foods, often contain gluten in some form. If you stick to proteins (meats), veggies and fruit, and eggs you fix yourself, you will find it easier to start. Cook your own rice..preferably brown rice. There are gluten free products now in the US ... they label them clearly now. A good Pasta is TinkyYada... from brown rice...made in Canada. It tastes just like regular wheat pasta. Some of the other brands are rather disappointing. Many gluten free products, are made with tapioca starch, and potato starch and can raise blood sugars faster than wheat products. So people watching their weight/glucose tend to stay away from them.
