Hello folks,
I need Omega-3 supplement, preferably liquid form (good quality) for my 4 year old. Currently, he is using Vitamin Shoppe liquid brand but he really hates it. In the past, I found a British brand called as Brainwise which was really good and he used to like it but I can not find it anymore. So I am searching again. Many thanks for suggestions, in advance. |

There are so many chewables today, you don't need liquids.

He hates chewables too. We got him chewable multivitamin and the bottle is sitting in the medicine cabinet. DW plans to use it once she finishes her multivitamin.

Well, you can feed this picky guy Omega-3 eggs, peanut butter, butter substitute spread by Smart Balance, and even some Chicken nuggets!
Lots of smart foods to pick from these days. Smart Balance is one brand. There are so many gummies now, even for Adults! Just Google.

Males do not convert flax oil Omega-3 in quantity to long chain EFAs. I would not do it exclusively as it won't end up as DHA which the brain needs. Flax is good for other parts of the body, and skin though.

Hi deltaforce, welcome to NeuroTalk.
I'd first think of the textures or/and tastes that your son will eat and then I'd work at incorporating a supplement into that. I totally understand your difficulty trying to get your son to eat different foods and to take added supplements. It's not easy! As mrsD said there are many products available these days, esp. in the US if that is where you are, that have added omega3 etc.. I looked up the Brainwise and I take it that was a "smoothie" type product. I'm sure there must be something else similar in texture if your son took that easily. Coromega have a range of products but one of them is called a "squeeze". It is fruit flavoured and if your son will drink a smoothie, you could put it in there. I think there is a custard too, but I couldn't find that info.. I just remember it from an autism group I was with years and years ago. Just check the ingredients on whatever you decide to try in case your son is intolerant to certain things, like eggs etc.. So ... I'd start with what he will tolerate and go from there. Let us know how you get on. |

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I tried Dr's recommendation and he wouldn't take it so I mixed flaxseed oil with psyllium husk powder and apple sauce, voila, he gulped it down pretty well. All I am not too sure is, if such combination good enough as Psyllium husk is a colon broom so will it adsorb oils and prevent body from using it? @ Lara, Brainwise seems to have discontinued the product I used to use. I don't find it anywhere. Thanks for Coromega link. I will look into it. He just drinks plain milk. He used to love smoothie but now he doesn't even look at it. As he is getting older, its getting tougher and tougher to feed him good food (crap food like chips, no problem at all !!) |
