These stories, reports of studies, go back and forth on efficacy and not. They are really not terribly reliable. I don't think the studies are done in a way so as to make a sizable recommendation.

Choice of participants is basically difficult and often lifestyle and diet and other factors are not controlled, so results can be very
unpredictable. This is unlike studies done by drug companies that CHOOSE their participants carefully. For example people are typically screened to see if they are high placebo reactive.
These are not typically allowed in the studies with the drug.
There is a book about this written by a former medical doctor/editor of New England Journal of Medicine:
Marcia Angell, MD called The Truth About the Drug Companies.

Anyone else reading this might want to either borrow or buy this book.

I learned about this quite awhile ago while researching Concerta (methylpheinidate ) for children. I found a doctor who was very angry when he discovered the study he was doing was being slanted by choice of patients to include to favor the results to sell more product. It was quite the scandal at the time and they censored him in his reports! So now I watch for books, articles on this subject often.

But thank you for bringing this here, Kitt. It is often good to discuss medical stuff and learn more.
