Default mrsD, opinion please

I am considering taking the NOW Brand multi-vitamin. It is a soft gel and I am wondering if taking a multi-vitamin in soft gel would be better (absorbed) than taking a multi-vitamin tablet.

Question

I find soft gels are fast for me. I use a soft gel for my Aleve, and it works so much faster than tablets.

Vitamins are a mixed bag, since some are oil soluble and others not. Some soft gels don't have oil in them.

Can you give me the exact name so I can look it up?
That would help.

Looks like state of the art....

My only concern is the selenium. It is a bit high for today's
standards.

I see this is really mostly an oil product...so take it with food.
Notice... 3 caps provide that list. (not one).

After doing some research I understand your concern. Is this something that would make taking this multi-vitamin questionable?

Well, it used to be that this selenium dose was typical.

But in the last 5 yrs or so, that changed depending on who you
read. 100mcg/day is now the recommended high.

Since you would have to take 3 of those to get all the doses in that list, I bet you could get by with 2 some days. Or skip a day here and there.

But I do think you should take them with a meal. Oils are best done that way.

It is more likely that selenium would be low in some people and it is a cofactor for thyroid hormone conversion to T3.

If you use selenium containing hair shampoos, that would be a factor for lowering the dose, I would think. Some might be absorbed thru the scalp.
