Basically in mid January of this year I started experiencing typical symptoms of B12 deficiency such as tingling up and down the arms, muscle and back pain, dizzyness, lack of concentration, loss of feelings of the hands, arm weakness etc. So I started taking oral B12 (sublingually) - cyano, 2 x 250 mg. Within 3 days of taking it, I noticed that the tingling in my arms went away, so I knew I was on to something (at first I thought it was repetitive stress injury).
However, on the 4th day I took the B12 in the afternoon, and by 7pm I had a bad headache, so I went to bed at about 9:30 to sleep it off, but kept having strange, lucid dreams - like I didn't know if I was dreaming or in a movie or what. So I turned on my light because I didn't want to have those dreams anymore, and then I felt really nauseous, like I was going to throw up, so I went to the bathroom and felt like I was going to faint, and my heart was beating really fast - the fastess I've ever felt it beat - so I woke my sister up (so she could help me if I did faint), and then I called an ambulance. I went to hospital and they didn't admit me, but they did run some tests, and by the time the ambulance came my heart was normal, so was blood sugar, blood pressure etc. The ER doctor didn't really seem that phased when I told her the only change was that I had been taking B12 that week, but she didn't really have much to say about that. But she did discharge me and ask me to go to my dr because of the multiple sclerosis-like symptoms (like the tingling in the arms). They did take blood that night, but didn't tell me the results. I've had 2 B12 injections in the past 3 weeks along with taking 500mg per day of the sublingual pills. I've since had 2 more of these nauseous and delirious episodes, and it's really starting to scare me. Does this have anything to do with me being deficient in B12 for so long that I'm suddenly flooding my body with it, and it's overwhelming my system with making new blood cells? And using up all my potassium? I felt like I was on the right track with the B12 because my tingling has gone, but then along come these other symptoms that I'm worried that I'm doing my body damage somehow. Thank you for any responses. |

I'd also like to add that I've since had an MRI and it rules out MS or anything like that.
I haven't taken the B12 yet today like I usually do because I don't want to experience any more mental effects of it. |

My Iron is quite low - 15 umol/L and so is my ferritin which is 10 ug/L. My B12 was 270 a few months ago. I've also been taking 1 - 2 fish oil tablets each day (to work with the B12 to produce myelin), as well as a super iron and ferritin tablet (about 325mg). But I haven't taken B12 today or gotten my usual shot of hydroxocobalamin this week because I'm scared of how I might react. In addition to my questions above, is my body working to reach some sort of balance after giving it a lot of B12 and iron at once, after a period of not having it? Which is why I feel so cruddy? |
