Default Niacin?

Hello,

A friend told me that niacin is good for a brain healing from a cocussion. I have PCS (post concussion syndrome) but my issues are now resolving. I do take quite a few vitamins and supplements.

Wondering about niacin, if I need it, and if so, what quantity and

I can post my regimin of vitamins later

Thanks
poetrymom

[SIZE="1"]What happened. I was in a car accident 2-23-2013, and got a mild concussion from it. I had some time off for brain rest, got somewhat better, but slipped into PCS in March 2013.

Symptoms I had: dizziness, light and sound sensitivity, fatigue, tinitis, occasional headaches and migraines,

Symptoms as of 5--2013: poor sleep, tinitis, some confusion /short term memory blanks, balance. The other symptoms are mostly gone, but flare up if I OVERdo something.

Therapy I had: vestibular

3 months in: I could drive more and for longer distances. I felt like a younger, happier version of myself and I feel so blessed to have this feeling.

9 months in and I am working full time. I do get tired, and some sound and light sensitivity from time to time, but mostly I am over most of my symptoms.
I pray every day and I m praying for your recovery.

Over a year in: I can multi task (limited) and have humor in my life. But when I am tired, I am very tired.

Default niacin

I tske niacin to reduce the triglycerides in my blood so it might help your I situaion.
I take 1000 mg a day but 500 may work for you. Be advised it will give yiu a flushed feeling about 3 hours after you take it. That is normal. Eat some fruit when you take it it helps. I eatva cup of yogurt and very rarely get flushed

Hi poetrymom,

If you haven't yet, this might be a question for the Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome forum.

In doing a quick goggle of niacin post concussion syndrome a few hits come up from here (NT) and a few other places, but not a lot of detail/specifics.

I don't have time to run it down at the moment, but a perusal of goggle scholar might yield something more definitive.

My wife takes niacin to lower bad cholesterol; it works as well/better than statins (see link for recent discussion of statins here).

NB: Niacin flush can be avoided/countered/reduced by taking either one aspirin or 500 mg vitamin C ½ hr. before taking the niacin. Many people take niacin at bedtime/night; flush seems less noticeable during sleep.
