Red face copper and iron

We've noticed that almost all the multivitamins have copper and iron in them. Wondering why they do that.

Copper is added to balance the zinc content, I think.

However, not all multivits have iron in them here in the US.

The trend is removing iron for men's products, and those for people over 50. Taking iron when one does not need it....can lead to heart disease and iron overload.

Thanks, mrsD.

I'm just trying to figure a whole lot of things out. It gets so complicated. My daughter's taking a lot of vitamins which seem to be helping her various health issues but she's just recently added a whole lot more (including some nootropics) and I just get concerned that sometimes we treat ourselves without knowing or understanding the full picture... i.e. she's already taking an iron supplement on its own but didn't realize there was iron in other things she was taking as well.

btw, she's doing SO much better since starting her sublingual b12 which I bought in from the US. Can't get it here. Her levels were dangerously low but she can feel the difference already.

Anyway, it's time for more blood tests I guess and see what her ferritin and b12 and some other things are now.

I am so glad she is doing better. The amount of iron in a multivit is not usually high.

Low copper BTW contributes to anemia. It is not common, but can become low if someone uses zinc. The copper/zinc ratio is sensitive and they each play off each other.

Thanks for that info regarding the copper because she does take a liquid zinc. I'm not sure how much this second and it's too hot here to go ask her. ugh
