Question SAMe

I just found out that the half-life of SAMe is approximately 100 minutes.

So if the half-life is only 100 minutes give or take, then if a person is taking it once daily, wouldn't that be a problem?

I don't think it is an issue. It gets soaked up into the tissues
quickly. Once in the tissues, it has to be utilized, etc. It is not a drug. It donates a methyl group to various functions.

It would be soaked up alot by the liver, in first pass, however.
That is why 200mg doesn't show up as a long term solution for other problems. Once the liver is saturated and satisfied, it moves on.

I started years ago with 200mg a day (and I was younger too).
That was plenty for me for at least a month. I ended up using 600mg for my knee repair long term. The old suggestions when it first came out was to use up to 1200 mg a day! I really can't see how people would stand that. I also noticed that very young people had side effects quickly on it. My son tried it 3 times and never made it past a month, each time before getting highly irritable. He has chronic anxiety issues from childhood though.

You know it was available in Europe for many years and dispensed by doctors by injection then. I am not sure it was a depot muscle shot or IV. If into muscle it would slow the absorption, and also bypass the first pass effects by the liver and work "faster" on peripheral tissues and the brain.

If you have ever felt the "energy" from SAMe... you'd understand. Once a day is plenty IMO. LOL
