Default high CRP - rheumy not concerned ??

My CRP was 20.6 a month ago ( normal range 0.0-4.9 ) and my rheumy is NOT concerned?? I just see him in his office, and he said because I had a cold and sinusitis at the time of the test that maybe caused it, but nothing else. For the high copper level of 208 ( 72-166 ) he said the level changes during the day, so that's not a concern either ??

Hi nyuszisue

I am not meaning to second-guess your rheumatologist but, writing as an immunologist, CRP is what is called an "acute-phase response" protein. That means that its levels go up when somebody has an inflammation from. typically, a bacterial infection. Its job is to bind to oligosaccharides (sugar polymers) on bacteria, which triggers their removal by the Alternative Complement Pathway, which is part of the innate immune system. Usually CRP levels go back to normal a few days after the infection has been dealt with.

I doubt, but could be wrong, that a cold or sinusitis would trigger an acute-phase response but, if so, CRP levels should go back to normal after you are over your cold or sinusitis.

If you have a chronic inflammatory disease, CRP may be chronically elevated.

You might find the information here helpful; http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/c...ve-protein-crp .

All the best.

Thank you for your answer !
I e -mailed the lab results to my family dr. last night and he also answered that the cold and sinusitis could have caused the high CRP, but also if there is any arthritis in the body, and said if I want to we can do the high sensitivity CRP. I'm borderline for lupus for 2.5 years and I have according to a sinus CT ( I had it for a problem after a tooth extraction last year ) a chronic sinusitis. The last time ( 2 years before this one ) I had a CRP test it was 2.2 ( 0.0-4.9 ). I know it can change any time.

I've gotten real serious with Omega 3's and last labs my CRP was a lovely 1.3.. I deal with bodywide OA, Fibro and a mess from hip replacement (talk about inflammation)...I've taken Omega 3's off and on, and Now am real serious with these oils. I'm much older than you, I'm sure, but inflammation is inflammation. I've also taken grape seed ex for going on 20 yrs and it addresses so much and especially allergies/sinus i had before getting on this antioxidant. I haven't bought a drug in going on 20 yrs for allergy/sinus issues.

I have a post in Alternatives titled OPC's........

Lots of info out there now on getting off grains and wheats, which cause inflammation.

A couple latest books are: The Grain Brain and Wheat Belly. C
