I've been taking B12 for many years but won't blame it for weight gain. My biggest issue is in-activity due to OA, Fibro and hip replacement complications.

Hi nyuszisue, I haven’t read any research showing a correlation between B12 and weight gain, but perhaps mrsD knows more about this.

B12 typically boosts energy. This is just speculation, but perhaps if it had such an effect on you, maybe your appetite has also increased while taking it. If you are eating more, then it’s possible you may be gaining a few pounds.

Wink

Yes, Audrey beat me to it....

If you were really low, could have affected your taste and smell nerves, and those woke up and everything was much more desirable.

B12 has a global effect on the body, so who knows ..it might add a few pounds, etc. I wouldn't think it would be a large effect though.

Thank you all for your answers. I gained 7 pounds in 3 months what never happened before. I do go up an down with my weight but not that rapidly.
My B12 was 244 when I started taking 2000 mcg, retested after 2 months to see if I was absorbing it ( retested after not taking it for 10 days ) it was 491.

I find I have more energy and tend to eat less when I take it..
Which I should do more regularly...

My weight has always been steady 112lbs. Couldnt gain weight. Then whammo i gained 10lbs. Turns out i developed hypothyroidism n b12 deficiency. Finally got them both back in range, i cut back my food intake but darn weight wont go away. Maybe check your thyroid to make sure thats not the culpit of your weight gain.
