Default Silent Epidemic of Iodine Deficiency

I became aware of this issue probably 4-5 yrs ago thru health groups I'm a member of, including an iodine group. All our body tissues including breast tissues need iodine. When I have missed my daily iodine (Iosol is what I use) I end up with pain/tenderness. There is so much info out there and just bringing it to attention of anyone who cares about improving overall health.

Caroline, I agree with you that iodide is an essential nutrient and it could be that its RDI has been set too low.

However, I am a bit puzzled by what is in your link (quotes taken from it, my emphases):

"These halides cause health problems, including cancer, and include fluoride, bromide and chloride"

Chloride is an essential nutrient. It is needed for (among other things) maintaining acid/base balance, transmitting nerve impulses and regulating fluid transport into and out of cells. I know of no evidence that it is a carcinogen.

"Even worse, your body becomes starved for iodine when you have these metals in your body."

Halides are not metals - this is elementary chemistry.

For me, these errors are not a source of confidence about the content of that site.

Just the messenager here Kiwi33, I'm not a scientist but know that millions in the U.S. are bombarded with fluoride and chlorine in our public waters and food supplies.

Everyone makes their own decisions on what they feel is best for their bodies.

Maybe take it up with the owners of the link I posted.

Hi caroline
I do think it is somewhat more the responsibility of those posting links here to check their reliability first before sharing them, rather than to suggest that those who find errors on those sites "take it up with the owners of the link". And when someone points out the errors, rather investigate whether they may be correct.

Hi, I've posted other links here and personally have worked with Iodine/Thyroid groups and read enough material and books over years....so just offering what I've known and thought for years. I'm not an iodine expert, I'm not an expert on anything...but I do follow alternative healers for over 25 yrs and this is where I come from. We are all adults and I know everyone does their research. We won't hear about iodine deficiency from the conventional medicine world....that's just one reason I have not seen a conventional MD in many years. Thank goodness my area has many alternative healing types and I had the good fortune to get into this world of healing. Thanks for your comments as always. C

PS: We have to trust and I've lost so much trust in the conventional world. I know there is a place for them, but prevention is first and foremost as I see it all.

I think you are misunderstanding caroline...it is not the alternative therapies or the supplements...it is the errors about them on the linked sites.
Many of us here adhere to alternative therapies rather than conventional.
