Default Can you help...ideas

Hi everyone, I don't post here much anymore but read quite often and wondered if anyone had any ideas for this guy.

I have an online friend with COPD who is probably end stage but is still hanging in tying to exercise with the rest of us. Hes made his peace but the issue is comfort, hes on morphine for shortness of breath and it is not working anymore.

His doctor says its neurological, his lungs have lost elasticity and because of that his nerves 'think' hes not breathing and are firing overtime. I don't know if that is right but he has dyspnea with no oxygen saturation problem, etc.

Can anyone think of a benign herb or supplement that might offer him some relief?

thanks,
judi

Here are some starters:

I have a friend who has nasty asthma and she is so improved with grape seed extract going on 6-7 yrs of it. I'm on my 20th year of it. I've pretty cured my allergies/sinus issues from my life before age 57.

Those are good ideas and I actually use some of them but I think hes beyond that kind of help. I was hoping maybe there was a 'neurological calming something' I hadn't heard of but I guess not. The morphine complicates things because if something suppressed his breathing more he could die.

My thoughts....

1) is he on statins? They were shown in UK to cause a lung disease called pulmonary fibrosis.
So the solution would be to stop them. (but at this late date? -- at least start the CoQ10).

2) if he does not eat fish or Omega-3's, then taking those may help with the lung tissue to rebuild it.

But it might be too late for him, unfortunately. But, he is lucky to have a friend like you.

Sorry Mrs D for tardy response, I didn't think there were any more answering posts so didn't check.

No, he is not on statins and he has eaten fish a couple of times per week for years, I am not sure about the Omega 3 content of all the species though. Omegas might help any inflammation though.

It is too late to 'fix' anything but just wondered if anything could help ease the terrible dyspnea. Hes not just sitting around waiting to die, hes a brave old guy and was told 25 years ago to stop work and put his affairs in order to die in 5 years and he started exercising and has lived a full life since then. He is so short of breath now he can barely walk but is still doing upper body exercises trying to come back. Calming herbs of any kind? Mullein?

BTW, great cat and flower pic.
