Thanks for highlighting this kiwi and it is a significant discovery.

Caught it on our news yesterday and have already discussed it with a friend who was born with a hole in her heart over 50 years ago and was one of the first infants in NZ to have open heart surgery.

Kudos to the researchers and clinicians who pursued the lengthy studies to come up with such important findings.

I was very impressed - not too much poor-quality work gets published in the NEJM.

AS the SMH article says, it may well turn out to be as important as the folate:neural tube defect link.
