Exclamation mrsd...help for lil'monkey

she started getting a sore throat on sunday. still had it today, but not as bad. tonsils are a little puffy, so is her uvula. she sounded just a little horse.

she has a choir program with 2 solos on thursday night.

she takes a daily multi vitamin. i added a b- complex and an extra c when school started. she eats exceptionally healthy and drinks lots and lots of water.

on sunday she took 400mg of echinaea 2x. same with today.

i know part of the problem may be the face gear. ( like the old head gear for braces, but this is more like a wire mask to bring the top jaw forward) it is impossible for her to sleep with her mouth closed. humidity has been ok to high here in texas.

what else can you recommend? is the dose of echinacea enough? i hate to give her otc stuff like dayquil or nyquil. benadryl absolutely wires her.

she is 12. 5 ft 8 inches+ and weighs 110-112. she is really freaking about this, because a producer is coming to hear her.

thanks for any help you or any can give. she says she will try whatever...as long as it's not stinky stuff to rub on her and make her go to school.

Lightbulb some ideas...

Does she have braces?

The echinacea should be okay. It is best to use it in a pulse fashion.
Like 21 days on, 7 off. It is only a serious problem for people with autoimmune
disease.

There are lozenges called Aqua Drops ...that keep the mouth moist for a short time (probably wouldn't work all night)...she could suck on one before going
to sleep. (make sure it is all gone before falling asleep). Most pharmacies have them in the candy section. (not commonly sold in grocery stores, however).

Also zinc is very good to improve cell resistance to viruses and infection.
Many people are low in zinc. This can be done with Cold-Eze lozenges during the day (3 or so), or an oral zinc supplement like OptiZinc 30mg once a day.
Zinc also helps with acne which teens struggle with.

Make sure she washes her hands alot... going to school, shopping you pick up tons of viruses on your hands from surfaces.. and you can transfer them to the throat in a second, and spread them around the house too, by just touching things.

If white patches appear in the throat.. you should check with a doctor--
might need antibiotics. Chronic sore throats in teens can also be Mono...
a quick blood test will show that. (my son brought that home from college one year and he got a secondary throat infection from it that was horrible).
Mono itself can cause a long term sore throat.

When I get a viral throat I spray Chloraseptic on it...the liquid has phenol in it and kills germs for most mild to moderate issues, I find.

Curious
we use an old granma remedy that really helps

hot black tea with the juice of half a lemon squeezed in and 3 - 4 teaspoons of honey stirred in

hope the lovely voice soars for the solos on thursday and that the producer is enthralled by it

thanks for the reply mrsd.

yes, she has braces. i forgot to add that with the face gear part.

i'll get her some of the aqua drops. she can't carry anything like that with her during the day. she would have to go to the office to get one. same with anytype of throat drops.

i had forgotten about the zinc. when she was little i gave her little lollipops that had zinc. ( 1 a day)

she carries a hand sanatizer with her. but in such a big school and changes classrooms all day...it only does so much good.

i will be checking for the spots. and for the momo. my cousin got in her senior year.

funny you should mention that. before school she drank hot tea with lemon and honey. it was clear tea. her braces are the ceramic and they can stain easy. she wasn't real happy with drinking a hot drink before going to athletics, but it seemed to soothe it.

she is real worried about thursday. she hardley talked after school. resing her voice. and boy was that hard!! no singing either. that was even harder than not talking. hehe...but it was sure peaceful for me.

Lightbulb braces...

The reason I ask is that braces abraid the lining of the mouth, and
the body then works harder to keep making more cells to fix things.

Vit C and zinc would then be commandeered to do this, and be used up
more quickly. Typically the mucous membrane cells regenerate within 24
hours if there is no organism that sets up shop there.

We are moving into the first cold season.. people coming off vacations, and traveling in air planes to college, etc. This spreads alot of viruses around.

not only braces mrsd...but she has the top pallette spreader too! and will probably be getting the lower one.

and yeppers...there have been times that the wires poke. she uses the bee's wax to cover and pokey parts. plus having sooo many more surfaces for germs and bacteria.

she rinses with listerine.
