Glutamine, which is an amino acid, is chemically similar to MSG which is monosodium glutamate, but they are not the same substance.

Glutamate is also an amino acid and the two actually work together. They are chemically very similar. I guess that’s why I am sensitive to both glutamine and mono sodium glutamate. I found a scientific study of both that concluded that while these are naturally occurring substances that too much of either can trigger pain in certain people. They studied a number of conditions including migraines and chronic pain syndromes.
