So today I went to the eye doc to discuss havign Lasik for my nearsightedness. Apparently I am a candidate.
One of the outcomes in most people is Dry eyes. So this doc (who was the director of the center at one of the top 5 eye centers in the country) said to avoid that we start people on a supplement for dry eyes...you can help it by swallowing this pill as opposed to eye drops or in addition to them. It was called BioTears by Biosyntrx. I looked at it further and it uses Omega 6 essential Fatty Acids and GLA. Interesting that they are promoting it as a nutraceutical for dry eyes. |

Here is a link with ingredients...I had trouble finding this information-- this is incomplete and does not have amounts-- http://www.medcompare.com/details/45...l-GelCaps.html Notice it has P5P instead of B6 pyridoxine and also magnesium! (One needs both to properly metabolize the EFAs.) It is a nice product-- but I'd have to know quantities of each in order to endorse it. It is not inexpensive either.

It is really revealing. I cannot comment now on lactoferrin amount... I'll have to look that up. The EFAs you can get easily for much less $$. You can't really overdose on EFAs at this level. But whether it is worth the expense is another issue. 50 IU of D3 ...well that is like spitting in the ocean. All of the other ingredients are really conservative. When one is having problems, well, then one needs more perhaps? 20mg of magnesium sulfate when one needs 400mg a day? Most supplements for magnesium are at 50% of the RDA, for example. This formula looks good on the surface, but sort of wimps out on examination. When companies produce a product they tend to be conservative in amounts included. This may be a good idea, and then it may not. It all depends on the status of the person taking it.

Really surprised me that the director of a major teaching university pushes this for their patients to take before eye surgery. I tried to explain that the Lovaza and the mutli and other supplements I take exceed what in this.
Thanks Mrsd. |
