Our bodies are supposed to have B12 in all of the tissue, over time it get depleted and we begin to have symptoms of low B12. When we take supplements to restore our levels our bodies can metabolize about 9mg an hour. Above that it's not used and is excreted. The amount of B12 in our blood when we have the common B12 level tests tell us nothing about the levels in our other tissues. I have been having B12 replacement for over a decade and only recently have my moons on my fingernails begun to reappear, for any consistent length of time. It was also several years and pretty hefty amounts of Methylcobalamin lozenges before my peripheral neuropathy went away.

in fact r lipoic acid has been very stimulating after starting it a couple weeks, i think i may hafta kick it down a notch and go with alpha lipoic acid, r lipoics seems a little too strong, for me anyways.

50mg a day is a good starting dose.
The energizing effects wear off in about a month as your body gets used to it.

well iwas taking 100 mg in the morning and at night, which i then kicked back to just in the morning. which I then decided, I didn't really enjoy or could fathom getting used to. but who knows maybe I'll try again at a lower dose someday or try alpha lipoic acid.

Im new to this board. I got the vitamin b12 shot last month it worked wonderful for me. I am on methotrexate for ra which is small dose of chemo. I have to pay a co pay when i go in and i really cant afford it as i have some other health issues as well. I also really dont want shots. Any idea what i can do to get the same dose as the shot? I have the sublimal b12 from natures bounty but not sure its enough.
Im on cymbalta, serequel, methotrexate, xanex Thanks |

All patients getting methotrexate should be on folic acid.
Studies show using 1mg or more daily of oral B12 is equal to injections. I would suggest the active methyl form called methylcobalamin. It is not commonly found in stores, but is common online, for example at places like iherb.com Use oral form on an empty stomach. you can read more here: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20030301/979.html Cyanocobalamin is synthetic and not natural to the body. Some people have problems with the cyanide portion and cannot convert it. So we have a good source now of the activated form methylcobalamin. many examples here: http://www.iherb.com/Search.aspx?kw=methylcobalamin
