Default first experience w/ oral methylcobalamin: wow!

Sorry for all the posts lately, this community is really helping me understand what may be going on with me. Glad to find y'all!

Anyway, after diagnosis of deficiency & 3 cyano shots in the last 2 weeks, I got ahold of some Jarrow methylcobalamin tablets as recommended here (and from a local store, too!). After having a weird reaction to my last shot, I was a little bit hesitant, so this first time I only took half a tablet. Put it under my tongue in the parking lot of the store, and in about 30 secs I realized I should let my wife drive.

Here's a rundown of how I felt, and the time since I put the tab in my mouth:
10 secs - like a slight jolt of electricity passing through me
1 min - feeling of rising energy
2 mins - more energy, starting to feel warmer
5 mins - feeling more mentally alert, vision seems sharper
10 mins - getting really amped up, but cleaner, less jittery than with the cyano
30 mins - by this time, i'm downright energetic, as I haven't been in over a month. Feel like jumping around. Heart a little fast but nothing bad. Very talkative, cracking bad jokes. This is a BIG change. All morning & the previous day I was dragging.
1 hr - after 30 mins raking leaves in the yard, still feel very peppy & giddy
1.5 hrs - after a little walk around the neighborhood, start feeling very tired
1.75 hrs - extremely weary, can barely move my legs
2 hrs - fast asleep (middle of the day), fitful but deep
4 hrs - wake up slowly, not energetic anymore but not as draggy as in the morning
8 hrs - better than yesterday! tired but alert, less jumpy, not as cold

Is it common to have this extreme a reaction to this stuff? I'm eager for more, but also a little concerned about the effects on my mental state and energy. I'm worried if I take the full 1000 mcg I'll jump out of my skin, then completely collapse.

Are the reactions a sign it's working, and I need it? Or a sign I'm taking too much?

My parents also take B-12 tabs, same dosage but cyano, their doc recommended mostly as precaution. They say they don't feel a thing when they take it.

Thanks everyone!

Default

Just wanted to report that the following day I took the same dose, and had a similar but much less extreme reaction. Since then I've gradually worked up to the full 1000mcg dose and feel a bit jumpy/edgy/energized, but nothing like that first day.

I still tend to get very tired a few hours after taking it.

Guess my body really needed it that day, or just needed to get used to the methyl and the dosage?

Exclamation I would not expect

anyone to have a positive reaction to B12 oral in 30 secs. It is not a drug.

However people differ, especially in suggestibility.

It took a long time to get low, and it takes a corresponding length of time
to get better. Some people see benefits in a as early a time as a week, or more.

People reading here should not expect this unusual response.

Default My experiences...

I was near death...least thats what is my opinion...back in 2004.
I'd been bedridden 100% for half year, had shooting electric shock down my spine anytime I moved my chin to chest...
Sock glove pattern of Peripheral Neuropathy...EMG and NC test proved moderate sock glove patter.
If I walked to the toilet, had to use a walker...my balance was also way off.
I usually just wore a diaper during the night.
I was so fatigued I could hardly sit up in bed...had hard time chewing and swallowing...
and so fatigued I couldn't even take care of my own personal grooming...
my husband works from our home and took care of me...
when he had to leave out of town he hired full time in home care for me.
I didn't drive for over 6 months, I was THAT fatigued.
I needed assistance just to take a shower or brush my hair or teeth.
I'd often just beg them to just leave me alone, let me rot I was so fatigued.
Long story...but I'd had years of severe anemia, had 2 bowel resections.
I also had an AVM...is an anuerism like mass, but mine was intestinal...usually is found in the brain or spine...lucky me!
I begged God to just allow me to die then as I was suffering.
I did have some bouts of "energy" if you can call being able to flush your own toilet energy!
Between naps I'd use my lap top to research why I had Neuropathy so bad...
thats when I found Brain/Neuro Talk Rose and Mrs D who helped urge me to take Methyl B12f....
I was told my level of 232 was normal....what????
They claimed my fatigue was just Fibromylagia (Ive had that for years and this was differnt!)
They also suggested was depression or lazyness...one doc said I just needed to put on some lipstick and perhaps I'd feel better!
A Rhruematologist up at the med school honest to God, said this to me...what an idiot!
I didn't have the muscle strenght, energy to brush my hair let alone put on lipstick!
Whats that joke...can put lipstick on a pig...its still a pig!...LoL!...oink!
I'd been drinking a suppliemnt loaded with B12 the day I had my blood drawn,
so probably was a big fat zero....so who knows!
I began taking Methyl B12, Jarrow brand Sept 3, 2004.
Within 10 days I was able to get out of bed and help my helper wash a load of clothing.
I don't recall any type "feelings" when taking the B12....just was 10 days later I felt like I was back to being a human being again.
That was the beging of a new journey and I'm no longer bed bound.
By Thanksgiving time I had enough energy to decorate a Christmas tree for Providence Hosp Festival of trees...my tree auctioned off for $7,100, money going to help disadvantaged peoples medical treatments. Of course I had help, but least I did it!
Its not been easy...the repairs my body keeps making.
I've also gone Gluten free and all my diarreah and bowel symptoms majically disappeared! After 25+ years of diarreah...being told it was Crohns disease. Wow!...but I still struggle with other issues...recent DX of Polymyosisits...but I'm wondering how vit, mins deficiencys play into what I'm feeling.
I had my doctor do vit D test...sure enough....came back low! And I'm suppliemnting with it!
Also taking MSN too...gosh, what else do I need to take?
Anyway...Matthew...keep taking the Methyl B....shots aren't as effective!
My EMG went back to normal JUST with Methyl B12 in less than 2 months!
And I didn't have b12 shot for very long time...I have the shots now, because I'm lazy and forget to take the Methyl...
I try to do both....ouch!...I dont' know why I'm so lazy about taking the suppliments...but is easy to give myself the shots...cheep too!
Blessings
A pictures worht a bazzilion words...here's a few that describe my fatigue!
