Default supplements for anxiety and OCD

Anyone try something that really helped with anxiety and OCD. I used to take Effexor XR, but an done with prescriptions! I've heard about Inositol and sam-e. Anyone ever try these?

Lightbulb in my opinion

SAMe may make anxiety worse. It tends to be energizing, and somewhat an
antidepressant. But both my husband and son get tense on it.
I do not, and use it for arthritis.

Inositol however works well on OCD and anxiety for my husband.
My son takes it occasionally, in spurts. He starts to feel better and then
gets confident and stops, etc. This is typical of young adults.

We buy pharmaceutical grade powder online from Jarrow and save mega
bucks that way.

This mixes into juice with no unpleasant taste.

Start at 500mg daily and work up. My husband uses 2 gm a day.
If you go over 5 grams I'd have doctor supervision.
Severe OCD treatments go up to 15 grams a day, in the research papers.

IF you do decide to try SAMe go very slowly. 200mg a day in the morning is enough for a month. If you like it and don't feel any negative effects you can slowly titrate up. Many people get tense on SAMe...I think that means your body does not need it.

Hi

my son had success with GABA when going thru a very anxious phase. He was only on it for 2 weeks and it really made a difference.

His OCD was helped by a combo of 5HTP, Inositol and methionine

(just a note of caution tho that some people get real "edgy" on 5HTP and that it should never be taken in conjunction with SSRIs)

A friend of mine was told to give her son 5HTP and it worked wonderfully for him. Of course at the same time he also had to go through an anxiety type of program.
