Default Vitamin E advice

Hi I am from the PN forum. I need to ask for some advice.I am taking 1000mg of natural vitamin E. I have moderatly elevated cholesterol and I was hoping it would help. Is this dosage alright? I hear conflicting theories.

Can anyone help me with this?

Apologies. reading my post, it sounds as if I am asking if the Vitamin E dosage will help me with my cholesterol. That is not a concern for me.

My concern is that I am not harming myself. I want to know if the 1000mgs of natural vitamin E is a safe dosage? Or too high? I hear conflicting information on Vitamin E and toxicity.

Thank you

Lightbulb there is some controversy about Vit E.

Here is a website about it:
http://nutrition.about.com/od/resear...aminestudy.htm

The study that trashed Vit E had huge flaws. It was a meta study looking a old papers. Those old papers were not clear on the type of Vit E used, and how the patients were selected. The concern was that many very ill people were used in those studies and they would have died anyway.

There are different types of Vit E. And the gamma version has been shown to be valuable. Also the amount of alpha and gamma together is important.

I have seen papers showing the C and A(betacarotene) work with E, and they sort of hand off free radicals to each other, and work as a team. That taking high dose of only one, does not give the same beneficial results. When used as a team, you don't need as high doses of either of them.

Most recommendations today encourage patients to discuss high dose Vit E with your doctor. If you feel 1000IU is too much for you, you could take it every other day. That is a compromise you can try.

There are some new products with gamma and alpha mixed. They are 200mg of each, giving a total of 400 IU and are very
inexpensive here in the states. I don't know if they are available where you are, however. I would use that if you can find it.

Default Hi Mrs. D

Thanks for the information, I was hoping you'd chime in with an opinion on it. I think that I will take your advice and take it every other day until I finish the bottle, and then possibly look at ordering from Iherb again, but lesser amount.

Cheers,
Aussie
