Wait I am confused. I bought ground cinnamon from Trader Joes. It says though it is non irradiated and all natural ground cinnamon. I was sprinkling it on oatmeal.

I suppose its ok on oatmeal but dont thnk you should take it after every meal. I have just read that the normal ground cinnamon used for baking could have impurities and better to use the supplements but I cannot remember where I read that.

Curious and I both take cinnamon pills..my are gel caps.

there are two types

of cinnamon from different plants.

If you Google this you will find many articles and opinions.

Stick with a known brand from a company with GMP practices:

This example tells exactly what you are getting:

Some articles I read this morning suggest the water soluble portion contains the most active ingredients. So I'd stay away from the oil, for now.

Okay this is so bizarre that I should find this here today. I was at WalMart and looking for my Vitamin D and I see Cinnamon in the vitamin aisle and I am thinking to myself, "who the heck takes cinnamon as a supplement and why"

learn something new everyday lol.

Hey I am from MI too Farmington Hills area. My neuro moved to Flint. I swear they have a vitamin or supplement for everything. Ok so is my ground cinnamon from Trader Joes ok?

Daniella, as far as I know trader Joe's stuff is usually pure ...I guess it would depend on the source of the cinnamon itself tho

I noticed Target are also selling large bottles of cinnamon capsules in their Origin brand. Dont know if that is pure.

I use the NOW brand from iherb.com
it seems to really help with digestion too

Thanks. You know I should look on this website from the holistic doctor I saw. He had many supplements on his site. I ordered a few based on what I hear here but I am going to look. He had wanted me to order some sugar pill that gets sugar to the brain I think he said. I forgot the name. Then I got annoyed cause I felt he was taking advantage of people for there money.I swear all these supplements and vitamins they need to have a class for.

Cinnamon for cooking/baking

The difference between cinnamon in supplements vs what's sold in the spice section of the supermarket is that all ground spices, per FDA (at least I think it's the FDA) is that baking/cooking spices can contain a certain acceptable level of bug parts. I know....pretty gross but true. That is why most spices, herbs, grains are irradiated....to kill off pest and their eggs.

You may ask how I know this....well....I was making a beef stew using home made beef stock and the recipe called for paprika. I used ground paprika that was in a metal can with tight seal. To my surpise, I had some dark brown things floating on top of the stew. I then inspected the spice and found little bugs. This prompted me to go onto a google search to find out what these bugs were and found that most, if not all, ground spices have some contaminates.

You can avoid this by buying whole spices and grinding them yourself.

I think if we knew everything that goes on in food processing plants, we would all starve.
