Default Supplements you found an actual benefit from?

I am trying to be consistent with my supplements and I know we are all different but was wondering for others what supplements they take that they found a difference in how they feel? Not just the numbers but actual feeling rather more energy,a big one for me would be less pain, etc. I can't say I see an actual change in any of mine but I will say I continue to take the magnesiumn glycinate cause I have read a lot about it helping the cramping in limbs and I guess the calcium with d since I have osteoporsis but good d levels. Maybe the omegas not with pain but clearing up some of my skin conditions. Not supplement but I have started drinking water and really cut down the diet soda I think that is a good thing though don't think it has helped my pain. Thanks

Each person is going to have a distinct list of things that helped them. It all depends on their own genetics and diet.

For me Omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium were the biggies.
But I also feel better on B6 and B1 (benfotiamine).
I have to take zinc because my blood pressure med depletes it.
I have to take Vit C because of my inability to tolerate fruit (fructose).

Right now I am using d-chiro inositol, and it has been wonderful in certain ways related to my longstanding PCOS symptoms.

Although I tested at 849 for B12 I still take 1mg of that a day for my PN. It also helps me sleep.

Everyone is different.

Thanks Mrs D. I thought you would say the omegas. Trying to really keep up with that myself as I would think my history that could be a major depletion in my body. By the way how is your stomach as I know you had problems with that and when you mentioned the fructose I thought of it. No more of those candies I remember you saying flared you up. I imagine you have a healthy diet. Thanks

Thanks for asking Daniella...

I avoid all sugars now, especially fructose, high fructose corn syrup. Tiny amounts of sucrose, seem okay but not every day.

The omegas and magnesium are two nutrients that have shown up in studies to be low in many people. So keeping those at a optimum level, really can restore health to many people.
My GERD which was severe many years ago went away, after about 3 months into the omegas. I owe Dr. Barry Sears, who wrote the Zone books, for alerting me to this subject!

Interesting and I am glad you are feeling better. I was reading a similar book on a diet to help inflammation. Now it is putting into practice. Do you follow any other diet things that you have found helpful?

No, I do mostly the Zone diet.

I eat alot of lean meats/seafood, and avoid pasta ( have it maybe once a week if that) and potatoes.

I eat alot of veggies and salads, with Beano now.

No cookies, cake, and ice cream very very rarely. When summer gets really hot, I may have more ice cream, but the sugar content is a limiting factor. I do have Smart Balance peanut butter, no jelly. Sometimes I sprinkle cinnamon on it.

My one vice is pizza. I will have some once a week. Can't give that up!

I use Lactaid milk, and lactase for other dairy products.

I am an old lady now, eating like one too! LOL

Thanks. I thought pretty healthy as you are so informed. I am trying. Can you tell me why if one does not have gluten condition or diabetes that still on a diet to lower inflamation they still say to limit bread products. I am not talking refined but even 100 percent whole grain but brown rice would be ok? Like why do you take pasta or potatoes out or is it more weight issues sorry I don't know your background on that. Or am I confused. Also vitamin e supplement what is that supposed to do and how much? I have taken a few time 200IU but then for some reason stopped. Do you think it may help me if I am consistent or any reason not to?Thanks always

After reading the gluten boards for a LONG time, I have seen posts claiming that even if you test negative, you may have a gluten problem anyway.

I only use Tinkyada brown rice pastas, because their glycemic index is better. I try to limit carbs however, to keep my insulin levels down. I have very high fasting insulin levels.
I have discovered over time that potatoes make my PN burn the day I eat them. I had to get rid of them of several weeks and reintroduce to discover that. Some people are intolerant to the nightshade family. Some people with arthritis have claimed improvement when avoiding these veggies. I do eat a small amount of tomatoes but some sauces also cause foot burning for me. (I think that is a histamine release). So I buy Bertoli brand sauce and it is mild enough for me.

You would want to choose a natural vitamin E that has all the forms listed on the label... alpha, gamma delta etc.
If you take fish oil, there may be vit E added to it as an antioxidant. Most of the oils have Vit E added.

I also avoid MSG... this is a huge trigger for burning for me.
Knock on wood: my feet have been pretty good lately! LOL
(I was born with a birth defect of the GI tract...this is what I blame my food intolerances on these days-- I have a severe malrotation which means my GI tract is twisted up inside. I get alot of problems with it because of that too).

I do use Vit D too in the winter...but I have stopped it now since I am outside so much.

Mrs D I have no idea what I do without you. You are so knowledgable. My fish oil pills is by nature made and has no e. My vitamin e is also by nature made and the ingredients are di-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate,Gelatine(non-bovine),glycerin,water. Is that ok or no and it is 200iu? I also have heard that about the gluten and people trying a diet free of it even if not positive in tests. I feel any relief even if it is small is at least in the right direction.Mrs D I am thinking you have PN and you stated the insulin and gi but do you suffer from other conditions? If this is too personal you don't have to answer.I am glad you have been feeling better
Blumajo you should try the magnesium. I am not sure if it helps me but I have read a lot on here and on the net and it seems like it could be of benefit. I order the glycinate kind but I know Mrsd D has stated slowmag is good too. I have dry eyes as well but mine does better with weather that is warm and humid then I have seen with supp or even steriod/meds. Omegas can help with mood as well. I remember my psych before the pain condition having me take them with my other meds.
