Arrow Does Zyflamend/ and other herbs interact with any of my meds?

How do you find out?

I take Gabapentin 2700, Elavil 37mg and Valium 10mg as my main nerve drugs, and when the pain is bad Oxy-10-20mg.

I also have a mixture of Tumeric and Bromelian that I want to take as I am something other than naproxen for inflammation, but need to know if there are any interactions before I take

Also, I assume if I begin taking it, I imagine in may take months/weeks until I notice improvement is that right? Could I take a low dose of Naproxen while "waiting" for it to" kick in"?

thank you so much.

Hi, Jess.

Curcumin is not absorbed well. Many studies coming out now
use enhanced absorption products.

Here is a thread about it and Zyflamend:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...ight=zyflamend

I think the ginger is good too, but you can find ginger anywhere for much less $$ than in zyflamend.

I have found over time that combo products deliver much less of any potentially helpful product, than using the most useful product separately.

If you choose an enhanced product like Doctor's Best Curcumin with Bioperine, it may interact with your meds. Bioperine can increase absorption of drugs.

The Curcugel Ultra does not interact. (this is one I take).
There are other enhanced curcumin products on the net, and they are costly. You can find those if you are interested.

You probably don't need the SAMe that is on that thread I linked here. Your use of antidepressants is not a good idea with SAMe.

Curcumin that is not enhanced for absorption, can work locally in the GI tract to reduce inflammation there---for colitis, Crohn's etc.

There is one new study out now in 2009, suggestive in mice that curcumin can enhance lung cancer in certain genetically engineered mice. So that study has a warning to not take curcumin if you smoke. (I don't know if this will pan out with time to be significant, since some studies can't be reproduced).

If you go to PubMed link at the top of the page and type in
curcumin inflammation... you can see all the other studies on it.

Of all the ingredients in that Zyflamend...I think the ginger and curcumin are the only two with potential...and their dose in the product is low.

The Curcugel Ultra I take works pretty fast. I've been taking it since January. I only use an OTC Aleve liquigel (220mg) a day when I have bad days from overexerting myself, or weather). I find the liquigel works better than the RX tablet at 1/2 the dose! Over my life I've used all the NSAIDs (except Celebrex), and I think the Aleve is far superior!

Thanks Mrs. D, I also bought Now's Tumeric and Bromelian for inflammation. I was thinking of trying these first, and just wondered if it would work as well as the naproxen. I am interested in something for inflammation as Ihave tendonitis in both feet now.
Does that sound like a good combo? Iwill look at PUb med.

The NOW product does not have an enhancing system.

If it is too late to amend your order, then when you do use it
try to take with food, and especially fatty foods. (salad dressings, etc count, as would fried foods, peanut butter).

If you take fish oil, or flax oil, take it with those.

The oils may enhance the absorption.
Curry when used in food, has been historically linked to lower rates of neuro disorders, because the oils/fat in the food enhance absorption.

When you run out, try one of the better products.

This lab tested tumeric products:
http://www.thecamreport.com/index.ph...n-supplements/
not a report to inspire confidence:
you have to belong to get the list, and unfortunately I quit them, because they auto-signed me up using my credit card, without my permission! So I don't belong anymore.

This is another example of an enhanced product.

I think the Curcugel Ultra is less expensive:
http://www.epic4health.com/cuul500mgena.html

I think one a day of a quality product is enough for most people.
I can't say with the NOW product however, since absorption may be low.
