not a lot on pubmed....but we all know that "curing" a problem with nutrition doesn't rank "up there"....
I would be tempted to do 10,000 unints daily, for say six weeks and retest....good luck

Lightbulb new study: Vit D3 is 87% more potent than D2:

Some interesting other information in this new study as well, about storage, etc.

Lightbulb Cleveland Clinic and comments on new Vit D research:

This is very interesting!

http://cchealth.clevelandclinic.org/..._content=vit+d

For those worried about the IOM report, this doctor puts it in a more understandable perspective.

For what it is worth, I take 5000IU daily and my test was at 43. Somewhat less than I expected. But still in the area of 1000IU per 10 ng/ml.

Getting up to 150ng which this doctor says should be the upper normal limit would need a very high dose daily it appears for me.

The bottom line? Get tested, and take D3 only to raise your levels to appropriate ones. The longer you wait, the less you can plan on achieving prevention levels of D.

I read all the forums here and it is alarming how many people are testing below TEN ng/ml and have chronic neurological challenges!

Right now I am taking 10,000 IU D3 one day, andd 5,000 IU the next. We'll see how that tests out in 6mos. My doctor wants me at 70ng/ml ultimately.

Just read this article on the dailymail (not the best of newspapers I know, but still) and thought I should share:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/ar...=feeds-newsxml

I found it incredibly interesting and very positive that they refer to 80 nmol/litre as the optimum level of vitamin d! And also the levels the volunteers were at... Shocking! Made for an interesting read!

Awareness about vitamin d insufficencies and deficiencies seems to be increasing!

Thanks for that. Basically it is a good article.

Then it falls rather flat by recommending RX supplements, which we now know are very poor. So go figure!

The "medical information" up til now about sun exposure reminds me of the medical suggestions to eat a low fat diet to lose weight.

Both are WRONG WRONG WRONG....
(patients with pancreatitis may have to watch fats, and people with severe gall bladder disease)...but most people require some good fat at each meal to remain healthy.

So still we need to be careful of the media, and medical people.
Much personal investigation should be done, for each person to choose what is right for them.

I have recently had a blood test for vitamin D levels and my level it 10. I know nothing about vitamin D so I guess I have alot to read here! Thanks for all the links. The doc gave me an Rx for 50,000 1 X a week. Does that sound about right?

The RX version is D2, and while it looks like a big dose, it really doesn't work well for raising levels. If you read this thread, there are a few posts explaining why.

You need to try D3 which is over the counter. Just Google and you will find it. It comes in a 50,000 IU and also 5,000 and 10,000 IU for daily use. Insurance will not pay for it, but it is not expensive.
