Look into Enzymedica, a company that specializes in Enzyme therapy products. Company provides samples, literature, educational CD's, carries a patent on their formulation for a ph sensitive capsule called thera-blend, and products have been formulated by a team of scientists and physicians. They offer two lines, one for digestive use, one for theraputic use. You should be able to find their products in high quality health food stores and markets like Whole Foods, Mothers, Wild Oats, Sprouts, Henrys, etc.

Thankfully my heartburn went away, since i've figured out how to swallow pills more effectively than before and since i no longer take the seroquel. even tho seroquel was a godsend for sleep, it had other side effects that were unpleasant, being arrhythmias, and heartburn(notably.) so the doc put me on pamelor which is supposed to be good for migraines and sleep. so i just wanted a general opinion on whether or not enzymes products were a good thing?

Enzyme products are used when you suspect your body is not producing digestive enzymes properly.
Pancreatic disease, Cystic fibrosis, some Celiac patients. Gall bladder removal changes bile acid secretion and some people find using them helps --but not all people need them. Heartburn is something else. This happens when drugs change the motility of the GI tract. (serotonin is a huge player in motility in the GI tract). Also if you take alot of anticholinergic drugs which reduce motility like the Artane does, or Benadryl, etc then food can reflux back up into the esophagus. Gas will also push food back up. You can get gas from some drugs like Prilosec or Nexium, or other acid blocking drugs, or from eating gas producing veggies. Beano will help with food issues. An antiflatulent like Gas-X can also help prevent reflux. Eating smaller meals helps. Avoid coffee, chocolate, alcohol, acidic foods. But I don't think enzymes are useful for common heartburn.
