hi Pearl,
I just wanted to say, I have a friend who the same kind of animia... sorry can never remember that P word

Anyway, she gets vitamin shots ever two weeks. Has been getting them since she was dx 20 years ago. I don't know if you are getting shots or not but you may want to talk to your dr about that. Just a suggestion.

And Jane: Hi there! I wanted to let you know that I totally sympathize with having an idiot for a dr. Oddly the dr who dx me with the b12 def was the same dr who wasn't treating the condition properly. She calls me, tells me that low b12 is very serious and can cause brain damage. But then when I go back the 3rd time asking her for b12 shots because I am still feeling terrible, she says... "1000 mcg should be enough" and then she says "the only symptom you have from b12 is your fatiqu, you shaking is sounds mental to me and you should see a therapist"

And she was talking to me like I was a hypocondriac. This was after only 3 visits. I walked out of her office, and a few weeks later I found a new dr. I got very lucky that time and found a dr who was well educated on this condition. Was practically quoting things that I read on this website! lol

find a new dr... fighting with your current dr isn't worth it, It will only cause more stress and right now your body doesn't need anymore stress.

So i've decided to take 1000mcg methylcoblalamin sublinguals once a day and then demand in 3 months to get my b12 tested again. Will taking these give the true reading or do I need to do something else before I get my b12 tested so it doesn't mess up the reading?

Also I've read take on an empty stomach, how long must I wait before I can eat breakfast in the morning?

Thanks again for all the great advice!
Jane

Hi Jane...

I'm not really sure, but I think when taking on an empty stomach... you should be able to eat within 20-30 minutes. But, I'm not absolutely sure. I just tried googling up the answer, and get anything from 15 minutes to 1 hour. I'd settle on 30 minutes, I guess. I've never paid much attention to this recommendation .

1000mcg daily for 3 months and then taking a level seems like a good plan. It took about six months for me to reach around 900. I seemed to come up about 300 points to 650 on the first check (at 8-12 weeks, can't remember), and then up to 900 on the second check (at around the six month mark) on regular old cyanocobalamin that I took initially. You are starting with a lower B12 level....but with a better form of B12. Checking every three months is a good idea until you reach upper range. And of course, then you have to continue to take it to maintain it... for the rest of your life.

Keep us posted with how you are doing. I hope you will begin to seem some early signs of improvement within a month or so....

jane, in the world of nursing/medicine...empty stomache is one hour before or two hours after a meal.......and when you get tested, you need to hold off on your B12 for a few days prior to the test....not sure how many, d/t you dont wont to measure what you just took, you want to measure the level you body is maintaining at that time....good luck
