Default What did you do to make '06 a Good Year?

Well, here we go - the countdown to the last minutes of 2006 is near. I, myself come to this forum for comfort and support and most of all, friendship. But, I also have a life outside of these boxes used to share my most heartfelt feelings.

So, I started thinking (now that's scary) and I thought, "What have I done to make this year a good one? I mean, there has to be something besides showing up for doctor's appointments on time! So while I think, does anyone have something they would like to share?

Love,
Nancy

very good topic nancy! these were 2 of my resolutions from 06 that i kept.

i smile at people. at the store...at a stop light. smiles are contagious.

i use cashiers, wait staff's names. at the bank. where ever. to try and make them know i noticed them and to thank them.

it may sound silly. but that's me. if i can make one person a tiny bit happier each day...then i'm happy. and they might share their choccy!

this really is a good topic nancy. it's making me think very positive. i have been a career woman for so many years...that staying home now...it tends me make not feel as worthy i guess.

i read only used books. and as much as i read...i saved a forest! i donated books to a local woman's shelter. lots of the little kids books that grandmonkey had gotten tired of too.

You know, I've been sitting here, reflecting on 2006, reading over and over your question Nance, "What have I done to make this year a good one?"

Most of you that know me, know that I'm usually a positive person, or at least try to be. Of course I get the depression crap, but who doesn't? I can't come up with one thing that I've done to make this year a good one. I really don't wanna rain on any parade here, but, 2006 sucked for me.

The bad part about that is that I had really high hopes for The New Year because 2005 sucked. I'm a "logical thinker" type that needs to rationalize things just because that's just me. Dumb, I know, but maybe that's my coping mechanism, dunno.

Your question triggered something; made me rethink things. I think I've maybe been putting too much emphasis into worrying about the future, and should maybe reflect more on the past and apply it to the future! I'm still thinking where the present fits in......

Maybe I should go do things to make the year a good one instead of waiting for good things to happen, then think the year sucked.....

WOW! That is a really deep question Nance... you can approach that from a lot of different angles.

Well, anyway, the highlight of my year was Brady's wedding, and that was bittersweet because his biological dad couldn't physically be there. Yeah, I know, he was there spiritually, but it's still not the same.

I've learned a lot of things in my 50 years here, but I think one of the most important things is to never say "it can't get any worse than this." It can and it will. I'm referring to 2005. I knew not to say that, because it did. I know not to say that about 2006 too. I'm afraid to know how bad things would have been had I said that!! (Old wive's tale has it that it's worse if you say it--or something like that....)

Jeesh, enough of my ramblings. A few of you guys know that I write what I'm thinking, so the rest of you, don't be alarmed when you read this and think I've flipped my lid!! I just write down my thoughts, that's all.

BS said it best when explaining how we use "these boxes used to share my most heartfelt feelings." That's what family is for. I'm glad I have you. Thanks for always being her for me. I love you guys!
Happy New Year!
Hugs,
LS

baking cookies and giving them away was a good thing. it spread joy and made people know you cared.

you were there for you daughter going to court. you supported her. you made that whole scary ordeal barable for her. she wasn't alone.

you add joy and friendship here. you let US support you too. that is huge for helping us to make last year better.

Hi Nancy, good thread.

Curious, I love what you have done.

Jan, I do the same, write off the top of my head. I don't know why your past 2 years were not great but I'm hoping your New Year will be better.

I will be alone all night for New years without a T.V. and my computer is acting up like crazy and I'm ready to throw it out the window. I was alone all day Christmas and chances are alone all day for New years.

Hmmmm, well I think the best thing I did was spend a LOT of time, as much as I could, with my little granddoody. He'll be 17 months on Jan. 2. I want him to know grandma and love me. We are bonding quite nicely and I love him so much!

I also am trying a new thing I read about and it's pretty nice. Unless you're like me and obsessive and have ADD and your mind races at night. Anyway, as I'm falling to sleep, I think of 3 good things that happened that day and concentrate on those. Even if it's the same thing over and over again each night, I think of 3. Usually, granddoody is in those 3, but hey, he's a good thing in my life every day. Who could not count this little tank disguised as a boy as a blessing and good thing each day????

Probably the thing I'm most impressed with this past year is that I really buckled down to tackle the bad debt and credit I've managed to put on myself my whole life. 57 and I want to retire so bad but can't afford to. I've promised myself as soon as I am more financially stable (all bad debts paid off, etc.) I will look seriously at retirement. This next year I'll continue to do so.

What a beautiful grandson you have! He's beautiful Doody!
Squeeze him to pieces! They're precious.
