Okay, just to update you all. I am 4 foot 11 and I used to weigh 125...(good weight) once upon a time. Well I just weighed myself and I weigh a whopping 195 pounds!!!!!! I have gained 20 pounds since I joined you all last year. How and why did ths happen?!?!?
I feel like a total failure. What happened in the last year to me???? What did I do that was so wrong? God Todd was right, I am bad...really bad. No wonders he had a "talk" with me a couple of weeks ago. Right now I am so upset with myself and am on the verge of tears. How could I do this to myself!? I can't even express how upset I am. So ladies...I need your help!!

Is any medicine causing this? When I took Neurontin I gained 30 pounds in a year. The nurse said it doesn't do this to you, but I know different. It at least makes you very hungry and therefore you gain. I have read to many stories about this problem with this drug on the forum.
Don't beat yourself up. Get a good diet book and start planning your meals. I need to do this too! And weigh every week anyway. That will help. if you lose just a little it will encourage you to go on. Maybe someone else has good ideas and will post. ____ BC Last edited by Fancylady_2006; 02-06-2007 at 12:22 PM. |

If it makes you feel better, a year and a half ago, I was over 300. I'm still bigger'n you, too! Changing how you eat and think about food is hard work; I won't lie about that. The things that have helped me the most are planning ahead and measuring my food out. I also have low blood sugar, so portioning out protein (which is often higher in fat) is crucial. I also try to eat when I just start to feel hungry so I'm not tempted to overindulge, and I substitute in any similar-tasting foods I can for the higher-fat, higher-cal stuff I used to eat. Also, eat often, small meals, lots of water, and bulk up whatever you're eating with fiber and veggies. You'll feel full for a longer time. This is how I have lost over 90 lbs in the past 17 months. I am the world's pickiest eater, too, so planning and creativity have been a must! I hope this helps! Hang in, never give up, and know we understand. LIZARD |

Thanks Liz. I really appriciate the advice. As I said in the daily check in, I didn't sleep very well last night and I am very tired today. I gotta go grocery shopping today so the frozen veggies will be on the list today!
Still feeling very shocked and dejected but better. Billie to answer your question, I was on Neurontin just over a year ago and gained a ton of the weight then. Recently I was put on Depakote for my BiPolar and part of it may be from that. So here I am about 70 pounds overweight and just realized it.

You're right about where I am. I have approx. 70 to go--but over 90 is gone!! All it takes is some planning, some substitution, and a lot of patience. Don't expect to change overnight; you won't. Baby steps, and lots of self-talk. It works. I'm proof! LIZARD |

I am sorry wendy,
It is so easy to put on weight. I was 195 as well 6 years ago and have since then been yo yoing ever since. I am now about 15 pounds short of my goal weight...I put on 8 pounds over the holidays...awful Let me say this about your depakote. Yes it will encourage you to put weight on. I have heard that trileptal is weight neutral as a mood stabilizer. and you don't have to have blood draws for therapuetic levels JUST HAve your sodium checked about every 6 months. I was on that for a couple of years, but my electrolites became abnormal. Hang in there! and here.... ((((((HUGS)))) bizi

Dear Wendy;
What the others have told you is correct. Each day, however, is a brand new day and a chance to go forward. Liz is absolutely right when she says baby steps. A menu plan that is right for you is a good way to go. Weight Watchers and other popular diets have cookbooks that will help a lot. And if you can walk, start as soon as you are ready but slowly. Add more distance every day. That's all I can think of right now except giving you lots of (((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))!!!! Hang tough, NancyH |
