I am not strictly Paleo, but I stay away from all grains (wheat, rice, corn, etc...). In 6mo I lost 30lbs and hope to still keep going.

Makes a lot of sense when you consider that cattle are fed grain to fatten them for sale.
That is in spite of the fact that they are not able to digest grains, needing grass, without adverse side effects including generally very poor health. You will go off grains if you read about the effects they can have on both people and animals.
A minimal amount in your diet would seem the way to go, especially if highly refined.
