Default Looking at the Mini Gastric Bypass - Opinions?

I'm getting older, and with the auto accident I had in December, I haven't been to the gym since then. I'm now thinking about surgery.

I just happened to see part of a piece about an actor who had dealt with weight problems all his life, and finally at 350 pounds, he decided to go the surgical route, with a Mini Gastric Bypass.

I was wondering if anyone has had this done or know about it. A website is http://clos.net/

If you want to see the procedure, look up "Gil Gerard" and "surgery" on YouTube.

I think this is very interesting and something I may be interested in. I am still watching some of the videos on youtube. The cost was listed at 12,000.00 which is a hefty sum but if it can give me back some of my life and reduce some of my pain I think it is worth it. ...Sue

snoozie-

I can tell you'd be interested. I looked at the map for the Nevada facility, and it looked to be very close to Las Vegas.

You should consider renting out a room for those of us wanting to go there. I have been trying to wade through all of the documentation, and the only downside looks to be having to take 3x the regular amount of multivitamins for the rest of your life. I'd rather take that than BP, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. meds.

Hey, Joe.

We talked about Weight Watchers before, some months ago. I'm serious: give it your best shot first. Even a "mini" GBS is invasive and has risks, and you can even gain the weight back! You may be amazed at how easy WW is. I certainly am! 18 months ago, I was over 300 lbs. I am now 215--90 lbs down!!--and I know I can get the rest off and keep it off. Give it at least a couple of months. I think you'll see your life change, just as I have.

Go to www.weightwatchers.com and check it all out. Explore the bulletin boards. (Check me out, too! I'm LIZARD110366. )

Good luck!

Liz-

I tried very hard, but 3 months have gone by since I went to the gym. Still having pain in my hip after the auto accident.

With all my medical conditions, I think I need to see about doing something that will help me drop weight more quickly than 1-2 lbs a week.

I'm just looking, and out of all the surgeries, this one seems to be the least harmful.

Joe that is a hard decision to make i'm sure. Please go with caution. What does your doc say or have you gotten that far yet? Whatever you decide I hope the very best for you, Froggie AKA slogo

Are you aware that losing faster than that is not healthy weight loss? What if you gained it back? You might be shocked at how quickly you lose on WW. As for exercise, all I do is move more than I used to. I don't do any cardio yet. Just imagine if I'd gained 90 lbs in a year and a half! I'd be nearly 400 pounds!! The important thing is to lose gradually and retrain yourself on how to eat. Who cares if it takes 5, 10, or 15 years?? You're getting healthy. That's all that matters.

Have you watched the videos on Youtube yet? There was one about a chemical that lowers in your stomach that decreases appetite. I am sure I have that wrong about the chemical but don't have time to go back and look right now. It was something that is lowered when they cut the vegus nerve. Anyway I probably have this wrong and will post the right info later.

Since I am so close I may go and check it out firsthand and see what I think. I wonder if they have info seminars or something like that? I am not saying this is a magic pill but it is something to think about...Sue

I followed a blog from a man who went on the gastric surgery diet
(but did not have the surgery)...you could try that route.

Yeah, there's a lady on healthboards that trying that now. I remember reading about the guy you spoke of. I know the web link was on the "old" BrainTalk before it went down. Wish I could remember it.

In any case, I'm still looking at my options, but my back doctor told me he would look at the information and red flag any bad things. He said that by losing the weight faster, my diabetes and HBP and high cholesterol would be in better shape.
