I will never be able to starve myself. That's because my hands starting shaking when I am very hungry and I have to eat something right away or it gets worse and I end up very ill with a headache. I forget to ask my doc about this and it makes sense that it's some kind of blood sugar thing, even though I have been tested for diabetes 4 times.
I've been meaning to ask you about this for a long time but keep forgetting! Thank you, Nancy |

starving your self is not a good thing at all anyway.
your body will go into a mode of self preservation and it will hang on to anything you eat to feed itself. -your metabolism will slow way down. The best way is to eat small meals with sensible and healthy food choices. I know that isn't much fun though LOL I only the "shakes" if I haven't eaten for 5 or more hrs- if we are out doing things or gone somewhere. How long until you get the "shakes"? my aunt gets them in 2-3 hrs and she is diabetic. TIPS- I limit the obvious junk foods in the house for the most part. {cake, cookies, chips, candy and fried foods} I do get salt or sweet cravings once in a while but then I just buy a small bag or a single serving of chips or chocolate to take care of that. I don't drink any pop { unless I have an upset stomach} {can't stand the after taste of the diet stuff - but what I have read it isn't all that great for you anyway} Drink more water increase veggies Bake, broil, steam or microwave most foods - limit fried foods Increase activity Try to reduce stress {helps with stress related eating and /or cortisol production}

When my blood sugar dips I get cranky and have a headache. I know exactly how you feel.
You may have Reactive Hypoglycemia, which is common in people with FM. Look it up and see if it relates to you.

Jo - I was WAAAAY kidding about starving. I don't believe in that at all even for runway models. I'm on Weight Watchers and I think you are right about timing. The shakes come if I haven't eaten for about 6 hrs. and that happens if I'm not paying attention. It's good to hear that it happens to others.
Wendy - I do have pretty severe fibro so it totally makes sense. I knew some smart people would help me figure it out. :-) Nancy |

geez Nancy I thought you were talking about the wind ha ha It is blowing so hard here I am waiting to see either my pine tree or gazebo go for a swim. I need to shut the blinds and forget about it because if it is gonna happen there is nothing I can do anyway.
Have you tried the weight watchers snack bars? I tried them and they are not bad. If I go too long without something I get shaky too and those are handy to throw in my purse to keep me from stopping fo fast food. So hang on to your knickers in this wind ...Sue

I get the shakes too, and I am a diabetic. I shake so bad in 3 or 4 hours, I would pass out if I don't keep candy or sugar around. I have to have it fast. I had script that worked good for this, and my drug company won't pay a dime on it. It is very expensive. Doc said that if this don't work, I would have to go on shots. I would think that is expensive too.
I don't drink pop at all and all my drinks have no sugar either. I haven't found a good way to manage it. I love to skip meals and will only loose when I do. I love veggies but a preson has to a verity someway. ____ BC |
