Hi Bizi,

You have made some tremendous accomplishments and I am sorry you have had a set-back on your physical activity abilities due to recent injury. Hope you will soon be back to all you want to do.

It is amazing how much a person's weight can fluctuate during the day. Mine can change anywhere from 2 to 5 pounds during the day so I personally don't worry about it until I compare the very first in the morning results with those same times and conditions on other days over the course of a week.

There are varying viewpoints on how often one should weigh, especially if they are trying to lose weight. For me, I found that weighing everyday helpful to keep from extra pounds showing up unexpectedly and then hard to get off. I will weigh every single day for a time just to be sure it is not creeping up on me. Then, I won't weigh except every week or so just because I forget or get out of the routine. For me, it is just easier to see a gradual increase than get surprised with a 15 pound increase that just suddenly appeared in the absence of watching the scale.

Getting on a scale was not part of my routine until I became disabled and unable to be physically active. That is when the weight started to accumulate, clothes became smaller or so it seemed (Ha Ha), and I had to begin watching the scale. If I don't do it regularly, the weight will really increase while my back is turned.

This is the first time I have posted to this forum on NT but I have seen some of your posts in other forums. Just want to congratulate you on your successes.

With the help of members and friends I have found on NT, since I first joined, I have been able to drop the "less" from my name.

Was nice to chat with you. Keep up the great work and hope you are soon over your injury.

Hope

Hey Bizi,

It's hard to say how long you should rest your toe; depends on what's causing the pain. I try to avoid medication if at all possible too, but if something is impacting my quality of life or my work, then I'm open to negotiation. Maybe try icing the area after you exercise to curb any inflammation? Could you place some cotton balls in your shoe to cushion the toe? Try different arrangements. I've never had a toe injury so no experience here, but I would definitely experiment with small changes so that you can keep up all the progress you've made.

Take care,

Carol

I am getting ready to go to the gym again, my hip feels fine today. but will just use the arc trainer for now, don't want to push my luck. not sure about the toe. will see how it is after today's gym experience.

since that time My toe and hip are fine.
I ran a 5K and did well, my first one with a friend and I kept up with her.
It was on memorial day..
last sunday I started drinking again, had 3 then 8 memorial day then 3 the one day AF then 3 last night. really feel like this is a relapse. need to be careful. I had gone 122 days Alcohol free this time around.
my weight is 144.5 this am from a big dinner of char broiled oysters and crawfish ettoufe over veggies last night and 3 ciders.
Drinking always puts on weight for me. I worked so hard to get it off and I slept really poorly last night which is another reason to not drink feel bloated and sluggish and tired.

Congrats on the 5K! I'm glad to hear your hip and toe are better.

Could you give yourself a limit on the number of drinks and get your husband to help you stay on track? Maybe a two drink limit? It sounds like when you drink, watching what you eat goes out the window? If you can limit the drinks, then perhaps you'll make better food choices?

I have to do the limit thing with foods like pizza and tacos. It is rare for me to ever have more than two slices of pizza or two tacos. (plus, I try not to have either very often). When I know the limit before I start, I don't have trouble sticking to it. I realize alcohol is different, but if you still want to drink socially, maybe something like that could help, especially if your husband has your back?

It sounds like you're alcohol free for longer periods and you have less drinks when you do drink - perhaps it won't be long before you stop altogether. If you look at the big picture, I think you're a huge success story.

My weight went up so fast drinking again.
bloated and uncomfortable. I had a black out the other night. Could not sleep last night until 4 am......This is crazy!
June starts tomorrow. I put the rest in the bin in the bottom of the refridgerator, I should just throw it out....jeesh!

I really think when I saw the scale go to 139.5 It really excited me. If that makes any sense...I don't know. anyway
I will have a dry June.
bizi

Thank you carol.
You are sweet!
when I look at the numbers it is more and more clear to me that I can't be a moderate drinker. I can't have just 2 unfortunately.
I am a problem drinker, I binge...5 or more in one setting.
That is me.
But drinking won't define me.

I will become a runner.

Hi bizi,

I have detailed my '80s drinking problems elsewhere, briefly - daily up to 8 pints and 8 double Bell's whisky without getting drunk. Cause, circumstance, pain masking and especially mental struggles.

I had had enough in '90 after perforating an ulcer and realising it was doing me ever more great harm. I stopped Cold, and now the thought and smell repulses me.

Drink does not define you, I have read your Threads and Posts. Let your kindness or your striving for greater fitness and you running do that.

You CAN beat this, with application and time, I am certain of it.

Dave.

Thank you dave for your kind words.
year and a half ago I had 165 day AF stint then A month here or there then 121 days just recently. so I know that I can do it if I set my mind to it.
I will have a dry june but will be on vacation on july 11th for 9 days and in august in NY and at the beach so I know that I will be drinking then.
I know that I have a problem I just can't seem to say I won't drink for ever.
can't do that. So for every day that I don't drink it is that much better.
When I do drink, I sleep like crap, gain weight, have black outs(fun right?)

Hi bizi,

One day, as you know, leads to the next day and eventually you will come to a point where all the days simply run on and on, and you have quit for good.

If you can do nearly half a year you can do any length of time. Always re-inforce your Will by thinking of - and writing down - the negative effects it has on you.

Everyone here supports you.

Dave.
