I've been tempted to get these P90X and Insanity workouts.
I'm 5 foot 11, and I weigh 272lbs and I need to lose 70 to 100 pounds and get in shape. I've never really been a person to go to a gym or be active, but I've got to get this weight off of me somehow. April 4th I was DXed with MS also. The thing with me is I have to have something laid out in front of me showing me what to do or I won't be able to concentrate. That's why also I've never became a nutrition expert because there are so many people saying different things, and/or they say things in general rather than specifics. So please someone really explain how to get healthy the simple way, I didn't say easy, but simple in explaining how's it done, fitness and nutrition. Don't tell me to google, because I've done that and I don't get so confused. |

It might help to list some of the kinds of things, how often, and how much that you eat now.
And any foods you really like or really hate. Then we can go from there.

I've been homebound since Jan. I can't drive because of my double vision because of the MS. I only drink water or sweet tea. Foods I eat are shrimp, ice cream, ham sandwiches, jimmy dean frozen biscuits, tacos from taco bell and sometimes from a mexican restuarant, cereal like fruitty pebbles, raisin brand, cherrios. Sometimes I don't eat during the day, and maybe one meal at night, then sometimes I snack at night time. I like pretty much what I listed above. I eat at wierd times during the day. I never eat breakfast because my sleeping patterns are so out of whack I wake up at lunch. I don't go outside often, only when I go to town with my grandmother or mother since I can't drive. Because I'm so tired all the time, I usually stay on the computer or watch TV. Which the fatigue is mostly caused by the MS

That really is limiting your fresh food intake quite a bit.
I'd limit the ice cream, ham, and prepared foods as much as possible. Too much salt & fats. Not much fiber, vegetables or fruit listed there. Have you had your thyroid & blood sugar checked recently? Basically if someone would bring you fresh fruits, vegetables & whole grain breads, eggs would you eat those?

I'll post some simple websites w/ diet/menu plans.
There is a suggestion to mainly shop around the outer edges of a grocery store, that's where the most basic & healthier foods can be found. The produce, dairy, fresh meats/seafood, breads sections. Try to avoid the over processed and prepackaged stuff in the middle isles. http://www.eatingwell.com/nutrition_...iet_meal_plans http://zenhabits.net/meal-plan/ Steaming, baking , poaching, broiling are much better than frying. Turkey, pastas w/a light sauce, and large serving of veggies is good. Some basic home exercise plan /activities might be better than those extreme fitness programs.

I listed a long list of foods that you could eat in your other thread.
By eating fresh vegetables you get the most nutritional value from them raw. The more something has been processed the fewer nutrients it has. bizi

I am going to pop in here after reading the food list....
MS symptoms share symptoms with low B12. Here is a video that includes a young man who was undiagnosed with low B12: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvEiz...ature=youtu.be If you have had a B12 level done, and were told "normal" I'd suggest you get those numbers. Ranges in US are still very low and unflagged for doctors. The new low is 400pg/ml. If you haven't had the test, then please get one. You may discover that your vision and symptoms respond to B12 treatment. Using methylcobalamin which is the active form orally is best, since the injections are synthetic and some people have a genetic error and cannot activate them. This is my B12 thread, with many medical links: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread85103.html Some of the members on the MS forum already use methylB12. Optic neuritis can also be due to low B12 levels...so it is really important up front to have this done NOW, rather than later. New estimates are that up to 40% of people in the US are lower than 400pg/ml and have neurological symptoms. If not identified early, these may become permanent. So please do this for yourself, now.
