Default Need Help

I have multiple sclerosis, and I desepartely need to lose about 50 pounds. I weight 258 now, and want to get down to 190-200. I'm 5 foot 11 and 24 years old. I've never been much of a workout person, and even though I don't eat as much as I use too due to the MS, I still eat the wrong foods. I do drink between 1-2 gallons of water a day. I just started Hip Hop Abs today, which was suppose to last 30 mins, but I couldn't get past 10 minutes. Its hard and easy to do lol. Has anyone else tried this? Or should I do something less intense? I'm in the process of changing my eating habits. What are some good small portions to eat that I can find at the grocery store? I have this oatmeal stuff called BetterOats OatFit - instant oatmeal with flax that has only 100 calories, 220mg of sodium. What do I look for in selecting the right foods? Eating healthy and exercising the right way seems hard - there seems to be a lot of info to retain.

Weight Watchers is a good program and it teaches you all about good nutrition while it helps you lose weight.

You posted this thread back on 5/7 and got a number of really helpful suggestions. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread188141.html

I just gave you a link to the Weight Watchers site and they pretty much do all the work for you as far as telling you what to eat and when to eat it. They even have a point system so you never have to worry about overeating or not eating enough.

I wish there were an easy way to lose weight and keep it off. Eat less, move more and drink lots of water.

1 to 2 gallons of water a day seems like a lot to me. 8-12 glasses (8oz) should be enuf. if you're drinking that much because you're thirsty i'd check with your dr.

there is such a thing as water intoxication. too much water intake can mess up the electrolyte balance in your cells.

otherwise, kitty had some good advice.

protein is your friend, meat fish eggs cheese, nuts seeds veggie stry to avoid white stuff like pasta, white breads, potatos, just limit your portion sizes. But protein and fats like avocados and oil oil for salads and sauteeing should be staples. they help to keep your blood sugars low and feel full. you should be getting 100 grams of protein a day that is alot. Spread it thru out your day. Eads makes a good high protein drink that is satisfying. A good book to read is protein power. WEight watchers has many many success stories.
I can't seem to count things so I just tend to follow a low carb diet and not drink alcohol any more and the weight is coming off.
good luck exercising. I walk in the evenings with hubby around the neighbor hood.

Start slow with the exercises. You don't have to keep up with the people on the DVD, just do your best. Adapt it to yourself. And walk! Just walking can do wonders. Try to eat real food, not out of bags, boxes, or cans. If you find yourself snacking out of a bag - stop, put some in a bowl (a small bowl), and put the bag away.

Good luck, skywalker. May the force be with you!

If you're not up to tackling exercise yet, I would start by changing your diet. Once you start cutting out the bad stuff and start seeing improvements not only in your weight but energy - I think you'll find the motivation to start exercising regularly.
