I have high cholesterol and should not be eating the things I do like the skin on chicken and other such no no things. I feel like an alcoholic with food. I know what I eat is bad for me but I do it anyway. I've tried WW and have lost some weight with them but I keep falling off the wagon. Food seems like my only friend in 3-D that I can rely on if that makes sense. It makes me feel satisfied after I eat it, it soothes me when I'm worried or upset, it gives me something to do when I'm bored. Most of all, certain things I eat that I don't get too often I will over do it with that food until I'm busting at the seems. When I still smoked cigarettes I didn't have a weight problem but I have been quit now for 2 1/2 years so why can't I get a handle on this food issue thing?

I hear that is so common after quitting smoking. Weight just seems to come on.
As for your high cholesterol. Have you tried taking Flaxseed Oil or Fish Oil tablets? The Omega-3s in them are supposed to help cholesterol and high blood pressure. I know it has helped my BP and my blood pressure. As for the fatty foods, I know what you mean, the fat is what makes them taste good. I guess my first step would be to find alternatives to what I like. For example, I love ice cream from a certain company, but now I eat light ice cream made by the same company. It tastes the same and I can enjoy. Try stuff like that so you don't feel deprived. Besides if you keep it going, you'll be sick.....can't have that! You know....I should take my own advice.

You can find the flaxseed oil in the vitamin aisle at the pharmacy or Walmart.

Befuddled - what motivated you to quit smoking? Could the same motivation apply to the eating issue? For me, on both the smoking and the eating, I had to want to do it. Bottom line - I had to have the motivation. Once I had it, I could address the issues but without it, I didn't want to even think about it. It sounds like you are getting close to having a "motivational movement" lol on the food issue. GOOD LUCK! Love ya, Nancy |

Befuddled, I sure can relate to your eating. I do the same thing and lately can not get enough to eat. Funny thing though, nothing I eat tastes that good. Still I keep putting it away. Keep thinking it will help the pain or bring me some kind of pleasure. Does not help the pain and really no pleasure either. Keep asking myself why I do it and self never has a good answer! Froggie
