Default It's Thursday....I think!

Hard to keep the days straight this week. It's minus 1 this morning and the little chickadees are having a hard time in this deep snow...they sink up to their little heads when they land. *grin. It's fun to watch the ladderback woodpecker at the suet...tho he is kind of mean...even the blue jays won't take him on. We have 27" of snow out there!

I've been having plain yogurt on my go lean crunch cereal and it's good!

awesome alffe!!! what a great way to start your day.

i am sooo bad about not eating first thing in the morning. bad bad. i know this. i teach people to eat healthy. i am back on my oatmeal in the mornings. not instant, but the good old rolled oats. no sugar. i just toss in some raisins when i boil the water. makes it sweet.

i am not going to get the scale that i don;t own...hehe..but i am going to take my picture once a week wearing my monkey t-shirt. ithought it was a good idea to be able to look for the body changes i want. whatcha think?

cold here this morning. kids got up and going good. until grandmonkey brushed his teeth. don't ask me how...but the stinker had toothpaste on his sleeves and his back. try putting a sweat shirt on a skirmy kid while trying not to laugh. i was trying to set a good example. hehehe..not sure if i did...i kept trying to figure out what he must have been doing.

what have you been reading alffe?

You gals had me totally confused. I'm just now seeing it, the other posts I mean. I have brain fog this morning. Sorry, for the confusion! Curious, you have got me off laughing this morning. Thanks! If you figure out the tooth paste, I'd like to know.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. disappearing acts along with magic. too funny about the toothpaste!

I'm reading two books at once....for pleasure I'm reading The Echo Maker by Richard Powers. It's about a man who suffers TBI from an accident.

And I'm doing some heavy reading (can only take short doses of this) with The Enigma of Suicide by George Colt.

It's up to 2 degrees and the sun is out.

Well I had to google this because I'd never heard of it. As a result of his TBI he has this:

Capgras syndrome. It’s a rare mental disorder usually suffered by people who have had strokes or head trauma.

These people claim that everyone they know is not actually that person and has been replaced by an imposter. For example, after suffering the trauma, the sufferer wakes up and sees their family in their room. But the patient says that none of them are their family, they have all been replaced by look-alikes. One is quoted as saying, “Doctor, this woman looks exactly like my mother but she isn’t, she’s an imposter.” There is even one case where a sufferer made this claim of his pet poodle. However, if they hear a familiar voice on the phone, they immediately recognize it and suffer no delusions about imposters. The disorder is linked solely to visual areas.

Why does this happen? The best hypothesis is that the connection between the visual areas of the brain and emotional response centers (the amygdala and the limbic system) has been cut by the trauma.

When you see a familiar face, you have some kind of emotional response to it. According to this hypothesis, patients with Capgras don’t feel anything, which leads them to the conclusion that the person can’t be the one they know.

The nice thing about this hypothesis (unlike Freudian ones) is that it’s testable. When shown pictures of loved ones, normal people have large galvanic skin response. Capgras suffers don’t, exactly as you’d suspect if they lacked emotional responses to visual stimuli.

What I find interesting is that when the brain receives no emotional response to a stimulus to which it used to respond, it assumes the stimulus is a fake. It’s the only conclusion that the brain can draw given the facts. The brain is quite a remarkable organ.

I got a voice mail from Gaye's husband saying she has pneumonia, tonight. He said he had her in the hospital almost all day and that she is very sick. Thats about all I know. Lets send prayers her way!

Mark and I have burned wood all day out in this cold weather. He trimed these tree's around here and we had a mess to clean up. I would rather been inside and it has took most of the day.
