Silly Judy, if it's cheap on sale, it's still disposable! I'm just glad that you're not running around buying anything retail that will be three sizes too big by the end of summer!

I'm glad you gave yourself a nice day out, and I'm proud of you for using the scooter, I know how stubborn you can be about it. Lunch sounds divine, next time I'm out, you'll have to buy me lunch there.

DM's AWOL on vacation but Wiz will be home from hers in a day or two, so she'll have to fill in for DM (the little slacker).

I think you've had a marvelous day and I know that you'll be good, eat your dinner, take your pills and get that SkinnyButt into bed before they kick in!

*TWEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!*

NurseNancy 01-25-2008 10:24 PM

YA HOO :Excited:

GUESS WHAT?????

my brother just called.

he got an e-mail from the lady at the governor's commission and deborah (his wife) AND I can go with him to the dinner :Excited:

for those who don't know...
my brother & i went thru some horrible medical/nursing tx each time our parent died. they were in FL and we were in CO. each time one or the other of us spent 3 wks away during this awful process.

when i came home i wrote an article about our tx and most of all my folks' tx. 2 different hospitals BTW. so, one article got printed in my local nursing newspaper, the other in our local newspaper.

then my brother wrote a rebuttal to this reporter who totally got things wrong. thus he embarked on a 2 yr journey of writing a book for nurses, drs, laypeople, boomers & their parents etc. the book is meant to enlighten people as to what goes on in hospitals around the country; the culture etc. and how to travel thru it to make any individual's experience when ill a better one.

we just wanted to make a difference and try to make some changes to our system. he also submitted one of 31 healthcare proposals to our CO legislature and worked on the governor's blue ribbon healthcare commission. his proposal was around end of life issues. it didn't get picked but...

there is to be an appreciation dinner at the Governor's Mansion next thursday. at first he said we couldn't go because they lacked the space. so now they've said we can go with him.

so, i'm so excited! now to decide on an outfit, jewlery etc. thank goodness i'm getting my hair done on tues.

oh my, oh my.
i'm just beside myself :D

tkrik 01-26-2008 12:22 PM

Back to Nordstroms you go. LOL.

What exciting news! That is awesome. I am glad you are able to join your brother on this special night. We will want full details afterwards.

Additionally, the two of you should be very proud of yourselves for crusading to make a difference. I am proud of you. That is a huge undertaking but others have listened and that's a start. You would think with all the records reviews and quality management that goes on in a hospital things would improve. But they don't. I was on a team for this. Weekly we would review records. Of course, we only followed JACHO's standards. After the reviews I would spend hours doing an analysis and trending only to find that sometimes it made no difference.

You are a very exceptional person.

Fancylady_2006 01-26-2008 01:45 PM

Regarding "End of Life" issues, I have studied a lot about that, since my husband went threw this in July of 06 with Cancer. Hospice help him and thats when I became interested. I am now a volenteer for Hospice and have learned a lot and keep learning as we have meetings once a month. I have one patient that I spend 2 hours with once a week at his home. Some visit the nursing homes and see 2 patients. I live farther out from the city so am assigned to just the one patient. I find it very rewarding, to give back to someone else, what I have been threw in our family.

NurseNancy 01-26-2008 07:15 PM

thanks for the words tkrik,

my personal opinion is that JACHO is a sham.
they're more concerned with getting things off the floor and locking up syringes than they are with staff issues and delivery of care. IMHO.

dear fancylady,

i'm very sorry for the loss of your husband. and bless you for your volunteer work. it's so very important.

~~ check in for today,

weight stable. blah. i was very good yesterday. it might have been the chinese food i ate again. i wasn't planning on that. my brother called me at 1700. he was in town and sitting in a chinese retaurant before heading home. he asked me to join him, so i did. tonite will be better, i'm home.

didn't do the dreadmill yet. i might skip it. i'm really hurting. ok, well maybe 2 min's.

Taffy 01-27-2008 11:24 AM

Hey Judy, you are doing great, but you want to be able to report really good stuff to DM when she returns so.........keep it up!

NurseNancy 01-27-2008 02:11 PM

yeah, report to DM *judy shaking in her boots*
uh oh, there's cindy  i'm go'in, i'm go'in.

darn, weight stable.
walked already today.

i have to tighten up more at nite. i'm having a couple of snacks like 1/2 brd and 1oz cheese, or fruit. nothing bad but it's just adding calories.

the reception (it's not a dinner after all) is thurs 1730-1930.
i'll have to eat something before i go. i have a nice crepe brown pant suit outfit i may wear. and i'll wear my mom's beautiful cameo. it's surrounded by little pearls, and pearl stud earrings. i have a beautiful gold and lavendar jade (like a large flower in the jade) bracelt. think i'll wear some black patent shoes. that may be one outfit.

my sil said it's on a thurs nite after work so probably not black tie. and, it's not a dinner after all so will be more casual. i just bought the suit. the tailor has the pants and said he'd do it for me early this wk.

i'll definitely give you all the low down as it happens.

AfterMyNap 01-27-2008 10:06 PM

How did you do today, dear Judy?

We're expecting a heat wave this week. It could mean a couple days above freezing.

*getting out shorts*

yeahbut 01-28-2008 06:36 AM

Keep us posted Judy.... I am so excited for you!

NurseNancy 01-28-2008 11:07 AM

Any-hoo! Yeah Judy! You are back in the right direction!

Go Judy. Go! Yeah!

tovaxin_lab_rat 01-28-2008 11:09 PM

Way to go Judy! I am just catching up with your thread! I am proud of you!! Keep up the good work. Your outfit for the reception sounds wonderful! Oh la la!!

;)

AfterMyNap 01-29-2008 03:00 PM

Still chugging along, dear Judy?

NurseNancy 01-29-2008 04:46 PM

yep, i is :D

ran a bunch of errands this am then went for hair appt.
like the color. it's still my brown but with some copper highlights.

weight stable this am.
i walked too.

tomorrow is my massage and i'm ramping down til i go to the reception on thurs. want the massage to stick for a day or 2. i have to pick up some clothes from the cleaners on thurs am. i'm going to shower...in the am too. then i'm going to lay down and start getting dressed about 3.

with MS i have to plan my spoons and pace myself to conserve energy.
thus all the planning of little details. after all, i want to have a good time.
my brother got me parking instructions and it sounds like i'll be able to park in the parking lot at the mansion. if it's further i'll have to take my scooter.

and, it's going to be cold. in the 30's and colder when i come out.
nap time. i may have to change my name to AMN :D

sabimax 01-30-2008 09:25 AM

the brood is keeping me busy....
Ciara is fighting nosebleeds even with humidifier in house...
Maddie is growing fast and rolling around to get to things....fun fun...
the older kids, keeping busy with sports or school activities...
although another snow day today....they are sleeping in now....

hugss to all, I miss everyone...hugss,sarah:hug:

tovaxin_lab_rat 01-30-2008 08:28 PM

Hey Judy

How was today? Cold and snowy here.

Checking in on you!!

NurseNancy 01-30-2008 08:35 PM

hi cheryl,
are your feeling better. i certainly hope so.
what did the dr say?

weight stable today.
and i walked early.

massage was good.
it was nasty today; cold and the sky looked awful.
came home and took a nap, woke up and it's blowing snow!
they say up to 2" which should disappear tomorrow. it better.
i can't take the scooter out in the snow.
i'm going to be + and look on the cheery side.

i hope this decreased pain lasts 48 hrs.
my glut is already tight again but i'm doing some stretches. that and heat.

ate really well yesterday.
i even went to bed early because i wanted to eat but didn't.
maybe tomorrow i'll lose altho i usually will go days after a loss before i see another one. crossing my fingers. that would be G R E A T :D

tkrik 01-30-2008 08:38 PM

Your copper highlights brought a smile to my face. After DD16 was born my hair started getting a little wavy (I had straight, fine, thin hair) and it turned this copper color! I asked my hairdresser and she said the shift in hormones could do that. I never heard of that. It's weird. It eventually toned down but seriously my hair was almost the color of a penny!

SandyC 01-30-2008 08:51 PM

Hi Judy! Just checking in on you! I gained two pounds...how did that happen? I only eat twice a day! UGH Me thinks menopause is having something to do with this.

But I come here and feel better because I'm not alone! You inspire many Judy. :)

NurseNancy 01-30-2008 09:01 PM

sandy,
how is jim doing?
don't worry about just 2 lbs. our weight can normally fluctuate especially at that time of the month.

but, watch out for AMN. she might get her whistle out.
sshhhh. don't tell her i said that.

AfterMyNap 01-31-2008 09:44 AM

No fear, Sandy, AMN won't blow the whistle at you unless you really need it.

Well, dear Judy, I imagine that you are deeply engaged in preparation and anticipation of your outing this evening. First, yes, you can so use the scooter in the snow, just be mindful of getting the motor wet. Second, have a marvelous time rubbing elbows.

*getting out voodoo Judy doll*

Curse on you, MiniJudy! If a bad choice is made, if discipline and iron will fail, if a bad temptation goes unresisted at the hors d'oeuvres buffet, may you be cursed quickly with a huge, humiliating blob of gooey, colorful food right down the front of your finery!

*frantically poking dolly all over chest and belly*

Muaaaaaahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

Oy, my work is so exhausting.

So
Happy
It's
Thursday

NurseNancy 01-31-2008 02:05 PM

uh, thanks for the send off cindy....i think:confused:

weight stable this am
i'm going to walk

and i might go back to bed real quick
all this prep and i'm still uncertain of what i'm going to wear, oy vay!
can't do that. all the trying on is tiring.

i'm trying to use mapquest to find another way to the mansion so i don't have to get on I-25. can you work your magic. the cross st is E. 8th ave & logan.

if not i'll find it.

Jim is doing fairly well. He has some nasty pain in his shoulder but we plan to see the pain clinic when we get back from Mom's surgery. He still has ecoli in his bladder but at this point we are thinking it is a natural occurance since he has a urostomy. No symptoms, no treatment. His doctor is sending me off with cipro and augmentin just in case while we are gone. Urology is planning a huge meeting of the minds and will discusss what to do with Jim's bladder so we'll find out more once we get back in town.

Now, about Cindy. I don't mind because I think I need a whistle in my ear loud and annoying. I don't know what is worse, quitting smoking or gaining weight. I haven't quit yet but Jim and I are down to 5 or less a day. That is amazing for us.

Well, whistle away Cin! I need a recording of someone yelling at me like a drill sargent. "GET UP OFF THAT BUTT AND GIVE ME 50!" Yeah, something like that. :o

Dmom3005 01-31-2008 09:01 PM

Interesting thread. Glad to see so many still around.

I'm down 2lbs on doctor's scales after two weeks, so I'm happy.

Thanks, Donna, and good for you. Two down and whatever it takes.:)

NurseNancy 02-01-2008 12:52 AM

i don't even know how i'm still awake as i'm dead tired.

i almost didn't think i'd make it. rush hr traffic was sooo bad. it took me 50" to make a drive of what would have been 5". i got there an hr late. but evidently the 1st hr people mingled and ate.

the mansion was absolutely gorgeous. old old furniture and very ornate pieces. lots of asian influences, chinese figures and jade pieces. lots of chairs were tapestry. everything old. so beautiful.

i ended up wearing black velvet pants and black patent shoes. i wore a pink floral sweater with some beading. silver pink drop earrings, a silver bead bracelet and a pink scarab watch.

my brother was very gracious. he introduced me to the Governor (Ritter) and he shook my hand. Bart said that if it wasn't for me he never would have written the book and the Governor shook my hand harder. wow. i'm really hob nobbing with the elite of Denver. :D

i didn't eat anything bad. well, only a 1" x 1" piece of brownie. just a taste.

my brother also spent the day at the Colorado legislature and spoke to the body about end of life issues and his book. wish i could have been there.

i'm so proud of him. my parents would be too. my mom's probably in heaven crying tears of joy.

well, to bed. see ya's tomorrow.

AfterMyNap 02-01-2008 10:37 AM

Good girl, dear Judy!

*putting MiniJudy away*

You should be proud of Bart, you should also be proud of yourself for helping him in this crusade. It's every small effort united that can move mountains.

I'm proud of you both!

NurseNancy 02-01-2008 03:22 PM

thanks cin, love your avatar BTW. but you should be looking up at us.
give us that evil eye. or better yet, put the whistle up to your mouth :D

weight stable
didn't walk yet. got up and went grocery shopping at 0930.
i'm exhausted. even from yesterday.
nap time.

i'll check in later.
ps...i see the scale wants to go down. crossing my fingers and closing my mouth.

DM 02-01-2008 03:55 PM

DM IS IN THE BLDG!!!!

It's good to be back where I belong.

Keep up the great work everyone. Go team!!

*changing head on Judy's mini doll to AMN's.*

NurseNancy 02-02-2008 12:34 AM

not to worry DM. i know you were on vacation and having the bestest time ever.

i crashed after the grocery shopping this am.
my legs are poor but recovering tonite.

i just opened my blinds and it's snowing!
i can't wait for spring.
first i wanted to wear my winter clothes and now i'm ready for it to be over.

eating under control and did end up walking. cut it short by a few minutes but did walk.

my dreadmill is my best friend, my dreadmill is my best friend, my drea....
