Does anybody know anything about Digestive Enzymes and if they play a role in weight loss or gain? My chiropractor keeps telling me I need to add digestive enzymes to my diet because I don't process proteins, fats etc like I am supposed to which is whats causing this bloating etc that I have. I wonder if that may have something to do with this 15 lbs I have gained since last Christmas (I take medication whose side effect happens to be weight loss so the fact that I have gained on it is really strange). I'm wondering if I add these enzymes if it will not only help with all, this bloat and gas that I will finally be able to drop this weight I have gained and been hanging onto for almost a year.
Anyone have any wisdom to share?

I think you have to be careful with these. Not sure I would rely on a chiro's knowledge of whether to use and them and their interaction with meds.
I woudl seek out a gastro's opinion. I took them for a while and have to say that I really did not need them despite what a homeopathic doc said. After a while of using these I developed burning in my mid section which my doc thought was related to the pancreas for some reason. |

how did a chiro come up with that dx? i agree with shelley. see a gastro. you may be "gunked up" and need to add fiber to your diet. a body can have an extra 10 lbs of fecal matter. gross...that is one reason eating plenty of fiber and drinking water is important to keep you cleaned out properly. |

Thanks for the replies everyone. Normally I'm really skeptical about most things, especially if it doesn't come from my regular doc, but I did a little research on them and now I'm kinda curious if/what they might do for the body. Basically if they are worth the money. I'm so sensitive to most medications (with the exception of OTC pain meds unfortunately) that I'm really hesitant to take anything without knowing exactly what it's going to do and how it's going to react with everything else I take, know what I mean?
10 lbs of fecal matter- eew! How could anyone possibly be that backed up (unless you haven't gone at all for days and days!)? Good grief! Pretty sure that's not my problem, but I'll increase the water anyways. As far as training goes, he pokes me in certain areas of the adrenals and wherever is sore is supposed to correlate with a deficiency in the diet as far as protein, fat or carb breakdown thus the recomendation of certain enzymes (you're supposed to have a urine test done too to tell you specific levels of certain chemicals etc).
