Question Need info and emot support re wt loss

Hi:

My name is Liza and I'm new to this site...In a nutshell...Is anyone else

out there on either Valproic Acid/Depakote and Zoloft/Sertraline? I'm having

a devil of a time losing weight on these drugs. I'm not into denial..I truly

have a limited appetite and don't snack around...Please make suggestions

for special weight loss on these drugs...My docs don't have a clue...Exercise

doesn't seem to help much...I seem to have water retention problems. If

there's a doctor who reviews these postings, in addition to a basic member,

all responses would be appreciated. I'm so tired of this problem and having

people think I overeat--I don't. No other drugs have properly addressed

my seizure and depression problems. I should note that I'm also on a low-

dose of estrogen due to a hysterectomy a couple of years ago...

Help! I'm terribly discouraged...and tired of putting on and then taking

off the same 10 pounds...I want to get down to a decent weight...

I hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks!

Liza,

Are there any alternative meds you can take in place of the ones that put the weight on you?

Hello Liza, welcome to the forum.

what is your age?
how active are you on an average day?
You mentioned water retention?/ dr won't give rx for it?
or possible dr is not concerned about it?

I can't advise anything on the med side of things- not in my knowledge or experience base.
Oh what is your height/weight or BMI #?

sorry for all the ??
Jo

Thumbs up Welcome Liza~

I have not been to fathful lately on the forum. I am sorry I didn't see your post yesterday. I can't help you with the medical part. I did have the same problem with a drug called Neurontin. I told my Dr. and he took me off of it and put me on another. Is your Dr. interested in changing some durgs for you to try. If not I don't think there is anything you can do. You can't stop all your meds that is for sure.
Most of us try walking and watch portion sized. I bought a pedometer this week and I find it chalenging to see how much I can do. It is as easy as you make it to be. It is easy for me to walk 4 miles now. I got a lot to do, and that help with the miles. i'm sorry I'm not much help to you tho.
