Default Hi from Melody!!

Hi all!!!

Just popped in to say hi. Sorry I have been absent. I have been growing my sprouts in my kitchen and eating really well. My sugar is doing well also.

I have some of my friends and neighbors trying to grow sprouts. Not too successfully. I don't think it's for everybody and I'm lucky that I like to eat these things.

I even made a video on what they look like. It's up on youtube.

Here's a link to my video on sprouts. And while you are viewing it, just go to the right and see "more videos from eliz7212". You'll see ALL MY INFOMERCIALS as well as my husband who sings.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obhcv...eature=channel

Today I started sprouting some new stuff. Some Black Turtle Beans, and some green peas. Along with my alfalfa and lentils, I'm a sprouting fool. I also eat Broccoli sprouts and I put all of these sprouts into a mixture and I make patties. Oh my goodness, when you eat these things, you will die and go to heaven.

Want another tip on making anything taste better? I bought Lawry's Chipotle Lime (I don't know what you call it, a marinade, a dressing, but it looks kind of like ketchup).

But let me tell you. You put these on the patties and you won't miss anything. You don't need french fries, you don't need anything. This stuff is wicked. It has a little kick. I never tasted anything with chipotle before.

So I am off to buy some seeds on the internet.

Just call me the Sprout Lady.

Hope all of you are well.

Oh, I just finished watching the Biggest Loser.

ANYBODY ELSE WATCH THIS??

I love it!!!

bye for now.

Melody

Hmmmmm, sprouts??? sounds interesting...yet would wonder just how good they taste. Alas, I am not much of a veggie eater...got to start eating the stuff soon though, need the good vitamins.
Going to watch the video.
Also are they good cooked? Maybe like in my veggie soup that is so low cal I can drink a cup or two. I do enjoy a good cup of my own soup. Just not much on raw veggies. Do you eat the patties raw?
Sorry to be so uninformed about such things...yet ready to learn and maybe try. froggie

Everything that I grow in my kitchen (all the sprouts). I put in my salad in the afternoon. I throw in a can of water packed tuna, add some garlic powder, some basil, some light sea salt, some freshly ground pepper, some grape tomatoes, a slice or two of red onion, and some button mushroom.

This may sound like a big bowl but it's not. It's a cereal bowl sized salad. With all the colors in that bowl, well just imagine what that is doing in your body. I just add some extra virgin olive oil and it's the best thing in the world.

Now you ask about the patties. Do I eat them raw? No, I make them as if one would make veggie patties. In fact, I also add cooked broccoli and zucchini that I put in the food processor just a bit so they are easy to blend together.

I take my sprouts, the mashed up broccoli and zucchini (and any other thing you want to put in, I throw in two egg whites, or one egg or egg substitute, a bit of bread crumbs to hold it together and the best thing is to gently grate a carrot into the mixture. The colors of the carrot make the pattie come alive as it's cooking.

I put some canola oil and heat it up. I make all the patties and put them in the sizzling pan. I wait until one side is browned and then I turn it over and do the same. I then cook on low for 10 minutes or so (depends on how thick or thin you like the pattie). If you like crispy, make them thin. You can pick it up with your fingers.

You can serve this with applesauce, with any dip, etc. I put chipotle on them and I was slave to this for life.

Alan likes his drizzled with honey on them. He goes nuts.

And he gets all the fiber and protein that's in the sprouts and the good stuff that's in the veggies.

If you are NOT a veggie eater, then you can do this because you don't actually see the veggies. The darn patties taste so good.

Next time I make a batch, I'll make a video.

You will lick your lips. lol

Hi. I just made my sprout salad (that I will eat for lunch). I said "let's show the people on the message boards what a nice colorful sprout salad will look like". And I didn't even add the majority of my sprouts because I'm growing a new bunch in the kitchen and they won't be ready for 3 or more days. Those are the black turtle beans and pea sprouts. They are starting to open up now.

Anyway, here's my brand new sprout salad video.

smart smacking your lips. lol

Oh, I indicated that these were brown lentils (on the right), I am mistaken, these were from a bag of organic GREEN lentils.

Hi Melody:

I have been reading about your growing sprouts with interest and would love to try and grow some.

Do you think that the lentils you buy in the grocery store ( you know the ones that are along side of the pot and pearl barley that is used in soups) would be okay to try and sprout?

It says on the package that they are organic.

Thanks in advance.

Wow, you found a bag of organic lentils in the grocery store? You are VERY LUCKY.
If they are pink or red lentils, NOT SO LUCKY. They are split, so they won't sprout.

Better to get green or brown ones.

You take a half a cup full (theymultiply when sprouted),

You take the half a cup, and, over a colander in your sink, you wash them nice and gently between your fingers (over the colander).

Then you drain them.

Now if you have a big wide mouth mason jar, you put them in and you soak them over night in water that is twice as much as the lentils. Just fill the bottle halfway. You can't go wrong.

In the beginning, I didn't have jars. I had bowls. So I washed the lentils, put them in a bowl, filled the bowl with water and set the bowl overnight (covered with a towel).

Next morning, you drain the bowl over the colander. Then you rinse and drain once more.

do the rinsing a draining twice a day. (draining thoroughly).

In 2 or 3 days you will begin to see little things coming out of the lentils. Keep rinsing and draining (well), for two more days.

When you see a whole bunch of sprouts, make sure they are well drained (you don't put anything wet in the fridge, because they will mold).

On about the 4th or 5th day, put in a bowl with cover and store in fridge.

I put these in my salads, I put them in soups, and I especially like to just sautee them and add them hot to anything I have.

I sprout the lentils with the green peas, and the black turtle beans. (all organic).

When you sprout beans, you have to lightly cook them before you eat them, because they have a toxin.

So because I mix everything up when I sprout, I don't eat any of this raw. (If I grew just the lentils, then yeah, I'll toss them (sprouted) in my salads.

But when I make a batch of all them together, after sprouting, I'll throw some in the frying pan (with some no-stick), sautee them for one minute. Then you can put them where you wish. I'll put these in my salad.

And you should see how the alfalfa looks when you grow it.

Organic alfalfa is completely safe, so don't worry.

But start with the lentils. Remember, not the pink ones. I made a big mistake. I found out that pink ones are already split and won't sprout.

I did all the research on the internet.

See, you don't have to do any of this. YOU HAVE ME!!!

lol.

I can't wait to see what you sprout.

Melody

Go on youtube and you'll see them explain about how the sprouts have all the gas (after germination), all the gas leaves the sprouts. No more bloating, no more nothing.

Beans are different. Even when I sprout beans, I use Beano. But the other sprouts, like alfalfa, clover, radish, fenugreek, etc. NO GAS.

At least this has been my experience.
