Welcome Bethy~

You will find us friendly here and you are not alone on the weight issues. Don't be so hard on yourself. We all overeat sometimes. we just have to get back on the horse and not give up. Somedays it is easy and somedays it is not. I lost 33 pounds last summer, but I am afraid to get on the scales now though for I too over eat. It does help to eat some of the right things and losing some help to encourage us to keep it up.

I got to get ahold of myself before I am sorry. Why is it so easy to gain and so hard to take off? Welcome to the forum.

You got some good suggestions here. :) How about starting with very gradually decreasing your portions? I joined Weight Watchers in August of last year, and that's one thing it teaches. We eat a certain number of "points" (roughly 60 cals per point), according to our starting weight, and every 25 lbs lost, the points allowance decreases slightly. You can also earn more points with activity, and everyone gets 35 additional points to use through the week, if you choose to. You can use some, all, or none. (Amazingly enough, I find I lose faster if I eat them all! :) ) It's a wonderful program that has helped me lose 91 lbs in 16 months!! :D I am not doing any serious activity, either (although I am starting to think about what I can do to increase my cardio fitness with plantar fasciitis in my right foot, as well as scoli and mild balance issues from hydrocephalus).

Hang in. It can be done! :) Check out www.weightwatchers.com for all the info.

Good luck!

Ohhhh boy .... Been there done that .. fell off the wagon and gained back with friends. I've done WW 3 times... I get so dang discouraged cause they wanted me to do more exercise and I cant do it.:( Too much with the fibro. I would even have help with our insurance .. ( we get so much back with WW after a year) . So it would be great if it would work for me. But it doesnt... because I cant keep up. I am not a good journaler (sp .. lol is that word? LOL)
I wish I could just cut it all off lol.. Ever have them days? lol:D

Wecome Bethy~

This is my third post to you today! I don't know what is happening to them. more computer problems I guess. Yes it is important what we eat if we can't be to active. I too have that problem of emotional eating. Some days are harder than others for me. I move the last of October and still am moving things. There is always something to do if I will keep at it. This time of the year is a stresser too. Think I am through shopping but now the house needs a good cleaning.

This is my first year without my husband. He died of cancer in July. I am trying to muddle threw and find a new life since I moved into a near by town. I do like it here, but it is different than the country life I had for forty some years. Welcome to the forum Bethy! We are glad to have you join the group.

Have you done it in the past 3-5 years? This is my third time with it (high school, about 25 years ago; college, about 18 years ago), and it'll be the last I'll need. :) It's a lot easier now than it ever used to be, and if you plan ahead and write it down as you're eating, it's second-nature after a few weeks.

Re the emotional eating...Many of the people on the board I'm on here online are also involved with OA, and it is helping most of them. Doing the two together might be what you need.

Please give it your best shot. I have tried everything else, and this is the only thing that has worked, because it's the only truly "real world" program there is. You don't have to give up anything you don't want to--seriously! I can no longer eat the way I used to because of this program. It's the best in the world. :)

As far as the exercising, you don't have to start out with anything vigorous. Start slowly, and as you lose and have more energy, you can gradually increase your activity. I am currently not doing any cardio due to plantar fasciitis, so I have some sympathy, too. ;) (If you haven't had an MRI of your brain and neck, do yourself a favor and get one. Fibro is usually a symptom of an underlying condition and is a common manifestation fo Arnold-Chiari Malformation, which is treatable.)
