That's wonderful Judy! I've been thinking of you and hoping you'd give us an update soon. Must be a huge relief.

thanks carol.
i am relieved. another good decision for me. it helped to do all the research.

the only thing that annoys me is that not one of my drs offered advice, info or offered to help me find a place to go that could do it.

again, the adage that you're your own best advocate is true.

I totally agree with you. My GP is someone who listens, offers advice and is willing to discuss options. I NEVER blindly do what any doctor tells me without discussion, explanation and my own research. Same for medication - I want the whole story from the doctor, the pharmacist and sometimes Google.

Doctors are human just like the rest of us and as a friend likes to say: remember, half of them graduated in the bottom half of their class. (although I expect/hope that med school has pretty high standards)

hi all,
i saw my pcp today & got some good news. i got my A1C down from 8.9 to 8.1.
not the 7 something i was hoping for but good news nonetheless. my weight has only dropped a few lbs but the A1C was more important.

she also gave me information on a new procedure called ReShape; a non-surgical weight loss procedure. i guess they place 2 balloons (by endoscopy) into your stomach. i don't know much more than that at this point. however, it costs $7000 & medicare won't cover it.

guess i'll have to do it the old fashioned was. has anyone heard of this?
i see my endocrinologist tomorrow so will get the plan for the next few months.

yes biz, i am. i take a long acting at nite & do a sliding scale 3x/day.

i've be able to decrease the short acting a bit. my A1C used to be close to 10 & actually yesterday it was 8.0, not 8.1. i'm really encouraged about that. i've tried very hard to lower it and it doesn't move easily.

all my other labs were normal; cholesterol, triglycerides etc and my BP was 100/60. slow but sure won the race. i just can never give up.

i do a sliding scale 3x/day & take humalog for that.
i take 60u of lantus HS (at 10pm).

like i said to my dr; the way to get to take less insulin is to bring my sugars down so i can take less. i see him in another 4 mos & hope to get my A1C into the 7's. i call him if my sugars act up & he's responsive to that.
