Default nerve damage or urethral syndrome

Hi. I started having cystitis like symptoms four months ago. After two courses of antibiotics failed I saw a gyno who diagnosed a suburethral/skenes gland cyst. She recommend surgery which she said would fix the problem and that my recovery would be a few days. Two months after the surgery I still have muscle spasms when I urinate, and stinging and pain in the general urethral/vaginal area.If anything the symptoms are worse than before my operation. Sex is out of the question and even arousal feels strange and uncomfortable. My gyno says it is urethral syndrome and has sent me away with gabapentin and no other solution. I am worried about the side effects and am confused as to why I am being offered no other solution other than long term medication. A couple of people have suggested it could be nerve pain. Can anyone who has had a similar experience advise me? I have been happily married for over twenty years and although my hubby is supportive and not worrying about the lack of sex, I want to be back to normal and free of pain.
