Talking Beauty Day

I have one day set aside each week for what I call "beauty day." I usually set Friday aside as it is just before the weekend and I usually spend most of my weekend with DBF - hey, I need to look/feel good before hand. LOL

What I do on that day just depends on time and energy. Sometimes it's just doing my hair or nails. Other days, like today, it is a full on treatment.

Thought I would share today's treatment. Mind you, I live in an arid climate. Dry skin and hair are a constant for many of us and finding things that work is hard not to mention expensive. My budget doesn't allow for it so I started using olive oil.

Olive oil has such great benefits. I strengthens nails, softens cuticles, is awesome for you skin and hair. Well, today was olive oil day.

I started out with my hair as the conditioning process takes about an hour. I wet it down with warm water and massage olive oil in to the scalp and then the hair. I then wrap it in plastic wrap real tight to keep the warmth and moisture/oil on the hair. Then I use the blow dryer for a little extra heat, then wrap a towel around it and leave on for an hour.

Then I had read an article once about mixing sugar and olive oil to make a moisturizing face scrub. I decided to try that this morning. AWESOME!!! My face feels great. It feels plumb and young feeling. Whooooohooo!

I massaged the left over mixture on my feet and legs paying special attention to my feet. (Last week I put a tablespoon of olive oil in my Epsom Salt bath and the effects were outstanding. My skin was so soft and stayed that way for several days). This week I took it a notch by using the sugar/olive oil salt scrub. Divine!!! Soft and all the dry flakes are gone and it feels so good.

Nails are now done, clipped, filed, and polished. Shaving is done. Skin is soft. Hair is soft, shiny, and manageable. It may not be noticeable to others but it is to me and it feels good. That is all part of beauty - how you feel.

My mom once told me to always have at least 1 set of pretty bras and underwear. No one will see them but they will always make you feel pretty. She was so right on that one. The same holds true for my "beauty day." I feel like I went to a spa, only spent may be a $1.00, if that, in olive oil in stead of much more than I would have spend in a spa.

Default Wow!

What a great idea!!! I will have to schedule that in... I think I would like to add relaxing and reading a good book after the spa-like treatment. Not today, but hopefully sometime soon! Oh, and ice cream!!!!! That is good for everything!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!!!!

Friend - It is good to "treat" ourselves at least once a week. It can be very uplifting. There are some days that I only do my nails. Others I put on pretty smelling lotion. Then days like today, I do it all. It feels good.

I haven't used a curling iron in ages, maybe the 80's? lol I do use a straightener. My how times have changed.

I do beauty days too but not as often as I'd like. Last night I was doing my face and eyebrows and Jim wouldn't stop talking. I finally said to him "Sheesh, I can't even get girl time around here!" He shut up and left me alone. Haha!

Living in a house of testosterone is hard and they forget that I am indeed a girl even though I can out work them all!

It's one of the big ones Sandy. My hair is naturaly curly. I think a straightner would fry it. The big curling iron works great for the long shag look. Kinda like Jaqulyn Smith.

I also got my anils all ready for a new color. Not sure what yet, so they are ah natural right now.

When I read what you girls were doing today, I thought I'd like do something similar.

I decided even if I just filled the spa and had a lazy soak, that would make me feel better, but with this terrible heat we have here at the moment... I couldn't work up the energy.

I know.... a cool spa would be just perect in this weather. They say tomorrow should be a little cooler, so tomorrow will be the day.

I even have a curling wand packed away somewhere

Hi all,

The older I get the more creams I need for my skin.

I use Dr Denese products for my face that I get cheaper on Ebay. She's pretty expensive otherwise from QVC so I get a daily email from Ebay showing me the listings.

I use Vaseline Intensive Care advanced healing for my body, especially my arms, legs and back. It keeps me from getting the dry skin itchies that are so bad in the winter otherwise. I'm going to keep the olive oil tips in mind for when I retire and have less spending money.

For my back I use a bath brush in the shower, then right after I dry off I put lotion on my back. To do that I triple my bath towel lengthwise and put some lotion on the center spot. Then I use it to spread the lotion on my back. It keeps the skin on my back looking healthy as well as moisturizing.

I have to use the body lotion or dry skin bothers me a lot.

How would I use the olive oil in the shower? I think it would be cheaper than what I'm doing now. It has to be fast or I won't do it, lol.

Friday is my end of the work week soak in the bathtub day. Read my book, and then do the shampoo/conditioner and shave.

That's my beauty day treat
