During my physical today, I was asked if I had intercourse on my period.
I told her 'no', and she mumbled something about girls having sex while menstruating and infections going around etc. I didn't understand why she'd ask the question, and she wasn't very forthcoming with information. Possibly because I had answered 'no'. Any ideas? She's aware I'm in a monogamous relationship as well.

It's a long time since I worked in the field of gynaecology, so this may not be much help, but the only negative I can think of is if a person has HIV or any of the other communicable diseases, then being in contact with menstrual blood could pose a risk of transmitting that disease.
It was once thought the woman was more in danger of cervical cancer if they had intercourse during their period, but I read somewhere that was never proven. Please don't quote me on that because I don't remember where I read it. Although messy, many women enjoy a greater response at this time, infact many women find that orgasm during menstruation actually alleviates the cramps that often accompany it.

Hrm, well I had abnormal cells discovered before... perhaps that's why the question was asked. I just found it odd, but your explanation would make sense

Also many women feel that during menstration they dont have to use birth control, and many men strip off those condoms. That puts you at a much greater risk for infection being passed back and forth between you and your partner.
She really should have explained herself better.
