At one point i lost almost all my smell, and getting strange sensations. The odd thing is that i dont have neuropathic symptoms like other people, such as consistent pain, numbness. At one point at the end of last year, i had a burning rash. The symptoms came all at once when i took the diphenhydramine 2 months ago. mostly its peripheral nerves that are affected, the ones that detects sensations. I do not have numbness or pain, just loss of internal sensations like my smell. She already blew off the other vitamin deficiency tests. I think i need to be retested for thyroid and glucose issues as well. or an possible MRI. They dispute that my smell loss is a result of neurological, i disagree since my smell loss coincides with my pins and needles neuropathy, "when i get an attack fo pins and needles, i can feel it in my nose(eventhough i loss sensation of air going through the nose. I will try to ask for an earlier appointment, for the specialist. She believes im psychosomatic.
Your next appointment, you might get a nutricion panel done. Zinc based products can affect smell and Zinc-Copper has a ratio that if too far imbalanced can have Neuopathic symptoms. Try not to lock your mind to the sleeping pills, there may be other stuff going on. Good Luck, Ken in Texas.
